CASE REPORT
A case of COVID-19-associated fulminant myocarditis successfully treated with mechanical circulatory support
- First Published: 02 September 2022
We describe a case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)-associated fulminant myocarditis that was successfully treated with circulatory support with an Impella 5.0. Choosing an appropriate device, careful and repeated observation of clinical symptoms, especially left and right heart function, is important. Echocardiography was useful for this evaluation.

- First Published: 02 September 2022
We report on a case of a patient with severe anorexia nervosa (AN) with unusually prolonged viral clearance, despite a mild course of COVID-19. Careful evaluation and preventive actions should be tailored to each patient with AN requiring hospitalization considering the potential for disease transmission and viral mutation.
Relapse of Hodgkin's disease revealed by skin involvement
- First Published: 02 September 2022

We report the case of a relapse of Hodgkin's lymphoma revealed by a skin involvement characterized by a nodular scleroderma-like placard with ulcerations at the neck, thorax, and armpits. The diagnosis should be considered in unexplained skin lesions. There is no specific treatment, and this disease responds to standard chemotherapy.

Salmonella infantis ulcerative keratitis in a dog
- First Published: 02 September 2022

This manuscript describes a previously unreported clinical case of Salmonella enterica serovar infantis associated with ulcerative keratitis in a dog. Local immunosuppression of the corneal surface likely contributed to this opportunistic infection. Antimicrobial therapy with topical ofloxacin, tobramycin, and systemic enrofloxacin was successful in resolving the infection.

- First Published: 02 September 2022

A patient with lung cancer was administrated osimertinib. She developed symptomatic heart failure due to Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TC). As her condition improved after discontinuing osimertinib, TC was thought to be caused by osimertinib. Reoccurrence of TC was seen after readministrating half dose of osimertinib.

- First Published: 05 September 2022
Myocarditis following COVID-19 vaccination is a rare complication, and most cases are mild. However, the present case was a severe one in an elderly woman who responded remarkably to steroid pulse therapy. Eosinophilic myocarditis should be suspected in patients with heart failure after COVID-19 vaccination.

Case series of nebulizing r-tPA for COVID-19 induced acute respiratory distress syndrome
- First Published: 05 September 2022

Fibrin cast depositions play an important role in COVID-19-induced ARDS. Systemic administration of fibrinolytic may accompany with risk of bleeding. Nebulization of r-tPA (Recombinant Tissue Plasminogen Activator) can temporally associated with transient improvements in oxygenation in COVID-19-induced ARDS. Fibrinolytic nebulization would minimize bleeding risk-associated systemic administration.

Recurrent primary intracranial synovial sarcoma, a case report and review of the literature
- First Published: 05 September 2022
Synovial sarcoma (SS) is one of the most common sarcomas of soft tissue, and it mostly occurs in the lower extremities. It can cause metastasic disease, especially in the lungs, bones, and lymph nodes. Metastasis in the brain is very rare. Primary intracranial SS has also been reported in extremely rare cases. In this article, we study the case of a 28-year-old man with primary intracranial SS.

- First Published: 05 September 2022

MASC is a newly recognized malignant salivary gland tumor that has similar histological and genetic features to BSC. MASC clinical behavior is still lacking in the medical literature. Further research is needed to understand the clinical behavior and the role of NTRK inhibitors in managing locally advanced NTRK-altered MASC.
Delayed distal pancreatectomy for isolated complete pancreatic disruption secondary to “trivial” blunt abdominal injury: A case report and literature review
- First Published: 06 September 2022

Of the abdominal viscera injuries, pancreatic trauma cases are one of the most difficult to diagnose owing to the delayed and unspecific clinical presentations, and lower sensitivity of contrast enhanced CT scan. A high index of suspicion is warranted especially in patients with progressively worsening clinical conditions.

- First Published: 16 September 2022

Intussuception in adults is a rare cause of intestinal obstruction. Early imaging like ultrasonography and CT scan can lead us to make the diagnosis soon. Laparotomy is the choice of surgery for small bowel obstruction. The extension of resection depends on the pathologic cause of intussusception as the lead point.

- First Published: 12 September 2022

We report a patient with Bloom syndrome who had refractory gastroduodenal ulcers requiring gastroduodenectomy. Since gastroduodenal ulcers with Bloom syndrome have not been reported so far, it was challenging to diagnose with her. As the complications of Bloom syndrome are diverse, the accumulation of their case reports is warranted.
Deep subcutaneous cervical emphysema related to mastoid fracture in an adolescent patient - case report
- First Published: 12 September 2022

A fracture of the mastoid bone should be considered in the work-up of a head and neck traumatic injury. A well-pneumatized mastoid can absorb forceful impacts, protecting middle and inner ear structures. Fractures of the mastoid, followed by Valsalva maneuver can lead to subcutaneous cervical emphysema.

Surgical management of a solitary metastatic ovarian adenocarcinoma with colonic origin presenting as gigantic bilateral ovarian masses
- First Published: 12 September 2022
The key clinical message, in this case, is that large, bilateral masses in the absence of ascites are suggestive for an extragonadal origin for which one of the primary sources is GI, so endoscopy and colonoscopy should be carried out for these patients (for gastric and colonic cancers). Resecting the primary tumor with metastasis is controversial, and not currently enough data are available. Our assumption is that we have to rule out the secondary sites of metastasis and peritoneal seeding, for which palliative chemotherapy and ostomy diversion for obstructive cases is the only option. In cases with no secondary site of metastasis surgery is considered an option, but the risk of metachronous metastasis is high, and the prognosis is poor.

- First Published: 12 September 2022

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a major global concern and various vaccines have been developed and approved for the use against it; however, there are immune-related issues associated with these vaccines that should be addressed separately for every patient. In this study, we report two cases of rapidly progressive hair loss following COVID-19 vaccination.

Xanthogranulomatous hypophysitis: A rare presentation in a young female patient
- First Published: 14 September 2022
Hypopituitarism is an important cause of persistent hypoglycemia in a patient with previously well-controlled diabetes. The combination of autoimmunity, hypopituitarism, and a sellar mass may represent autoimmune hypophysitis, which can mimic a pituitary adenoma. Several histological subtypes of hypophysitis have been found, and XH is a rare subtype.

Yet, seen the high reported prevalence of rebleeding, decompressive treatments should always be discussed in a multidisciplinary team after coil embolization.

Unresectable and chemoresistant conjunctival squamous cell carcinoma on xeroderma pigmentosum treated by salvage radiation therapy: A case report and a review of the literature
- First Published: 24 September 2022
