Cancer incidence, mortality, and burden in China: a time-trend analysis and comparison with the United States and United Kingdom based on the global epidemiological data released in 2020

Cancer incidence, mortality, and burden in China: a time-trend analysis and comparison with the United States and United Kingdom based on the global epidemiological data released in 2020

The cancer spectrum of China is changing, with a rapidly increase incidence and burden of "cancers of the rich" (lung, breast, colorectal, and prostate cancer) in addition to a high incidence and heavy burden of “cancers of the poor” (liver, stomach, esophageal, and cervical cancer).

The Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO): Clinical guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of gastric cancer, 2021

The Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO) organized a panel of senior experts specializing in all sub-specialties of gastric cancer to compile the clinical guideline for gastric cancer in 2016 and then renewed it every year. The 2021 CSCO Clinical Practice Guidelines for gastric cancer covered the diagnosis, treatment, follow-up and screening.

EMT-associated microRNAs and their roles in cancer stemness and drug resistance

EMT-associated microRNAs and their roles in cancer stemness and drug resistance

In this review, we preliminarily looked into the various roles that the EMT-associated miRNAs play in the stem-like nature of malignant cells. Then we reviewed the interaction between drug resistance and EMT-associated miRNAs with elaborated signal pathways, especially the opposite roles in various cancer types. We finally arrived at a conclusion concerning the relationship between EMT, stemness and drug resistance and discussed the potential application of miRNA therapy for malignant tumors.

The role of the HIF-1α/ALYREF/PKM2 axis in glycolysis and tumorigenesis of bladder cancer

The role of the HIF-1α/ALYREF/PKM2 axis in glycolysis and tumorigenesis of bladder cancer

Our data suggested that m5C may play a critical role in hypoxia/glycolysis network and targeting HIF-1α/ALYREF/PKM2 signaling may be a promising therapeutic strategy to treat bladder cancer.

Early screening and diagnosis strategies of pancreatic cancer: a comprehensive review

Early screening and diagnosis strategies of pancreatic cancer: a comprehensive review

Pancreatic cancer is a highly malignant digestive system tumor with poor prognosis. Most pancreatic cancer patients are diagnosed at advanced stages or even metastasis due to its highly aggressive characteristics and the lack of early typical symptoms. Thus, the early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer is crucial for improving its prognosis

A global assessment of recent trends in gastrointestinal cancer and lifestyle-associated risk factors

A global assessment of recent trends in gastrointestinal cancer and lifestyle-associated risk factors

Prevalence of gastrointestinal cancers was positively correlated with national human development index levels, but negatively with hypertension and diabetes rates. Age-specific trends were observed in stomach cancer and esophagus cancer for incidence and in liver cancer and pancreatic cancer for mortality, as well as sex-specific trends for stomach cancer and pancreatic cancer in the elder. These findings suggest that future research has to focus on the specific etiology of gastrointestinal cancers behind these epidemiologic transitions and improve therapeutic strategies for patients with comorbid metabolic diseases.

The role of non-coding RNAs in drug resistance of oral squamous cell carcinoma and therapeutic potential

The role of non-coding RNAs in drug resistance of oral squamous cell carcinoma and therapeutic potential

The mechanisms of drug resistance are intricate and involve drug efflux, epithelial mesenchymal transition, DNA damage repair, and autophagy. Nano-delivery and self-cellular drug delivery platforms have a broad prospective for alleviating OSCC drug resistance. In particular, the combined application of new technologies (including CRISPR systems) opens up new horizons for treatment of OSCC drug resistance.

Trends in cancer mortality in China from 2004 to 2018: A nationwide longitudinal study

Trends in cancer mortality in China from 2004 to 2018: A nationwide longitudinal study

This 15-year longitudinal study described cancer burden of a rapid changing country with significant regional and urban-rural disparities, which is important in evaluating the effect of population ageing, risk factor exposure, and public health efforts on cancer mortality. Lung and liver cancers were the 1st leading cause of immature death in women and men, respectively. Lung, colorectal, and pancreatic cancers kept increasing in rural areas. These findings are references for policy making to control cancer.

Predictions of mortality related to four major cancers in China, 2020 to 2030

Predictions of mortality related to four major cancers in China, 2020 to 2030

The overall trend in the combined total mortality from four major cancers (lung, liver, stomach, and esophagus) is predicted to decline in China over the next decade, but the corresponding death toll is expected to surge in the context of China's population aging and high smoking prevalence. This study provides an evidence-based assessment of the trends in mortality from these cancers ove

Improving antitumor immunity using antiangiogenic agents: Mechanistic insights, current progress, and clinical challenges

Improving antitumor immunity using antiangiogenic agents: Mechanistic insights, current progress, and clinical challenges

In this review, mechanisms of VEGF-induced immunosuppression based on results from preclinical and translational studies and recent progress in randomized clinical trials were discussed. Key challenges associated with dual targeting of VEGF and PD-1/PD-L1 pathways were also defined in order to stimulate collaboration and help galvanize a broader effort.

S100A8 promotes epithelial-mesenchymal transition and metastasis under TGF-β/USF2 axis in colorectal cancer

S100A8 promotes epithelial-mesenchymal transition and metastasis under TGF-β/USF2 axis in colorectal cancer

In colorectal cancer, S100A8 in tumor cells predicts poor prognosis but that in stroma cells indicates good prognosis. We first proved that TGF-β promotes metastasis through upregulated intracellular USF2/S100A8 axis, and USF2 maybe is the switcher on the opposite function of intracellular and extracellular S100A8.
