This special issue showcases current peptide science research in Italy. The image is a reinterpretation of the ‘Birth of Venus’ (Sandro Botticelli) depicting the goddess emerging at the sea-shore as a fully-grown woman. Green helical peptides are blown in by the wind gods Zephyr and Aura, Venus is embraced by a white helical structure and the Hora of Spring holds a cloak decorated with red beta sheet peptides. All peptide helices are representations of the structure of the peptaibol trichogin GA IV, while the beta sheet is a depiction of the structure of amyloid fibrils. Design by Prof. Lorenzo Stella (Università di Roma Tor Vergata).
