James Henderson Naismith, Ph.D.

Prof. Naismith obtained his B.S. and Ph.D. degrees from University of Edinburgh and University of Manchester (UK), respectively. After finishing his postdoctoral training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (USA), Dr. Naismith became a faculty member at University of St Andrews (UK). Currently, Dr. Naismith is the professor and Director of the Research Complex at Harwell, and the director of Rosalind Franklin Institute, University of Oxford. He has published nearly 300 papers on international journals including Nature, Nature Structural & Molecular Biology, Nature Communications, Nucleic Acids Research and PNAS. Renowned for his investigations of protein structure by X-ray crystallography and targeted therapy by small molecules, Dr. Naismith is elected as a fellow of the Royal Society (UK), the Academy of Medical Sciences (UK), the Royal Society of Edinburgh, the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Royal Society of Biology (UK).

Dr. Gao is an internationally recognized gene therapy researcher who has played a key role in the discovery and characterization of new family of adeno-associated virus (AAV) serotypes, which was instrumental in reviving the gene therapy field, hugely impacting many currently untreatable human diseases. He has primarily focused on novel viral vector discovery for in vivo gene delivery, vectorology, vector biology and manufacturing, large animal modeling, preclinical, translational, clinical gene therapeutics and novel gene therapy platform technology development. He has published 400+ research papers in journals including Nature, Nat. Biotech., Nat. Drug Rev., Cell, etc. He holds 260+ patents. He serves as Executive Editor-In- Chief of Human Gene Therapy, Senior Editor of the Gene and Cell Therapy and on Editorial Boards of several journals. Dr. Gao had been ranked as the World Top 20 Translational Researchers by Nature Biotechnology. He is now elected fellows of both the US National Academy of Inventors (NAI) and American Academy of Microbiology; he was also the Past president of American Society of Gene and Cell Therapy.

Yu-quan Wei, Ph.D.

Yu-quan Wei, Ph.D., Professor and Director of National/State Key Laboratory of Biotherapy and Clinical Cancer Center, West China Hospital, West China Medical School, Sichuan University, Chengdu. He was educated at West China University of Medical Sciences for a bachelor's degree in Medicine and a Master's Degree in Medicine, and educated at Kyoto University in Japan for a Doctoral Degree. His major research interests include targeted therapy, signal transduction, gene and cell therapy, and cancer vaccines. He has published more than 300 papers in international journals including Nat Med, Nat Commun, PNAS, Blood, Cancer Res, Clinic Cancer Res, J Immunol, and J Biol Chem, etc. He was selected as an academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2003. He is now President of China Medicinal Biotech Association. He has served as an associate editor of Human Gene Therapy and Editorial Board Member of several International Journals.

Bing Han, Dr. Med

Senior Editor

Bing Han joined MedComm in January 2024. After graduated from Huazhong University of Science and Technology with bachelor and master of medicine, he received his Doctor of medicine from Ludwig-Maximillians University Munich where he studied stress and programmed cell death. He then continued to carry out his postdoctoral research on stress and immunity during spaceflight in Hospital of LMU Munich. At present he is the Senior Editor of MedComm.

Maggie Wang, PhD

Maggie joined the MedComm editorial team in June 2023. She completed her PhD at Sichuan University National Key Laboratory of Biotherapy, where she researched mental and neurodegenerative disorders, examining the effects of misfolded protein buildup using clinical studies and animal models. At present she is the Senior Editor of MedComm.
