Front Cover: New Tricks for Old Guys: Recent Developments in the Chemistry, Biochemistry, Applications and Exploitation of Selected Species from the Lamiaceae Family (C&B 3/2020)
- First Published: 09 March 2020

>Front Cover. Lamiaceae is one of the largest families of flowering plants comprising about 250 genera and over 7,000 species. One of the peculiar features of this family is on one side the presence of the highest number of aromatic plants, on the other side, it is one of the most studied families for the content of a great number of components endowed with a large spectrum of biological activities. The Mediterranean basin is the region where this family found the best environmental conditions for its development and differentiation. Aim of this review is to give an up-dated vision of the most recent studies on some selected Lamiaceae plants, such as lavender, oregano, sage, rosemary, and thyme, which characterize the patrimony of the Mediterranean area. The increasing cultivation of these species and their growing diffusion as new crops, as well as the evaluation of the new applications of the extracts and essential oils in new sectors of their potential bioactivities is reported by Napoli et al. in their review at 10.1002/cbdv.201900677.
