Alcohol consumption, depressive symptoms, and the incidence of diabetes-related complications: 酒精消费量、抑郁症状与糖尿病相关并发症发生率之间的关系

  • Pages: 14-22
  • First Published: 10 July 2018

Highlights

  • This study examined the interaction between high alcohol frequency and a high number of depressive symptoms on the development of neuropathy, retinopathy, nephropathy, and coronary artery disease in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
  • Individuals with high depressive symptoms who drank the most frequently had the highest risk of incident neuropathy and coronary artery disease.
  • Future prevention efforts should examine both alcohol frequency and depressive symptoms when assessing the risk of neuropathy and coronary artery disease among individuals with T2DM.

Going beyond HbA1c to understand the benefits of advanced diabetes therapies: 在HbA1c以外了解先进糖尿病治疗的益处

  • Pages: 23-31
  • First Published: 26 August 2018

Highlights

  • Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) overcomes problems inherent in HbA1c by providing glucose-centric metrics and actionable information to healthcare providers and their patients, leading to improved glycemic control.
  • In addition, CGM is the key technology is driving advances to a fully closed-loop artificial pancreas system.

N-Acetylcysteine alleviates gut dysbiosis and glucose metabolic disorder in high-fat diet-fed mice: N-

  • Pages: 32-45
  • First Published: 30 May 2018

Highlights

  • N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) treatment improved gut dysbiosis and glucose metabolic disorder in high-fat diet-fed mice.
  • In mice with metabolic syndrome, NAC boosted the growth of Akkermansia, Bifidobacterium, Allobaculum, and Lactobacillus.
  • The changes in gut microbiota abundance after NAC treatment were associated with altered metabolic biomarkers.

Clinical characteristics of adolescent cases with Type A insulin resistance syndrome caused by heterozygous mutations in the β-subunit of the insulin receptor (INSR) gene: 胰岛素受体(INSR)基因β亚基杂合突变所导致A型胰岛素抵抗综合征的青少年病例临床特征

  • Pages: 46-54
  • First Published: 06 June 2018

Highlights

  • This study presents details of six peripubertal cases with clinically diagnosed Type A insulin resistance (IR), including four cases with identified insulin receptor (INSR) gene mutations (three previously reported and one novel).
  • The study reveals the clinical features of patients with Type A IR due to INSR mutations compared with mutation-negative patients, and indicates that the extent of growth retardation during the fetal period is correlated with the severity of insulin signaling impairment.

Prospective cohort studies of birth weight and risk of obesity, diabetes, and hypertension in adulthood among the Chinese population: 出生体重与成年期肥胖、2型糖尿病及高血压风险关联的前瞻性队列研究

  • Pages: 55-64
  • First Published: 11 June 2018

Highlights

  • Low birth weight was linked with lower body mass index, a smaller waist circumference, and larger waist:  hip and waist:  height ratios in the Chinese population.
  • The non-linear pattern of associations between birth weight and body size in adulthood in this population, as well as the higher risks of type 2 diabetes mellitus and hypertension in men and women with low birth weight, suggest that nutrition in early life is of considerable importance to health in later life.

Association between different types of comorbidity and disease burden in patients with diabetes:糖尿病患者不同类型的共病与疾病负担之间的关系

  • Pages: 65-74
  • First Published: 28 June 2018

Highlights

  • Among all patients with diabetes, 88.6% have certain comorbid conditions. Approximately 40.5% have diabetes-associated conditions (concordant comorbidity) and 48.1% have conditions not related to diabetes (discordant comorbidity).
  • Patients with diabetes only spent less money on medical-related expenses, but received worse diabetes care than patients with comorbid conditions.
  • Higher disease burden in terms of medical expenditure and health-related quality of life in patients with diabetes was associated more with discordant than concordant comorbidity.

Left atrial appendage occlusion for stroke prevention in diabetes mellitus patients with atrial fibrillation: Long-term results: 合并心房颤动的糖尿病患者通过左心耳封堵术预防脑卒中:长期结果

  • Pages: 75-82
  • First Published: 12 July 2018

Highlights

  • Left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) in diabetes mellitus (DM) patients with atrial fibrillation has similar safety endpoints and long-term efficacy as LAAO in the general population.
  • In addition, LAAO in DM patients with AF has similar stroke and bleeding prevention rates as in patients without DM.

Novel frameshift mutation in the insulin (INS) gene in a family with maturity onset diabetes of the young (MODY)

  • Pages: 83-86
  • First Published: 05 September 2018

Highlights

  • This study reports a novel frameshift mutation c.212dupG (p.Gly73fs) in the insulin (INS) gene causing maturity onset diabetes of the young (MODY) 10, one of the rare types of MODY, identified in seven family members.
  • Screening for mutations in identified MODY genes is warranted in patients who require insulin, are negative for autoantibodies but have a family history of diabetes.

Relationship of past, present, and passive smoking with sociodemographic, anthropometric, biochemical, and dysglycemic profiles: 既往吸烟、目前吸烟以及被动吸烟与社会人口学、人体测量学、生化指标以及异常血糖谱之间的关系

  • Pages: 87-89
  • First Published: 25 August 2018

Highlights

  • Former smokers exhibited a significantly higher metabolic risk compared with subjects with other smoking habits.
  • Current smokers with diabetes exhibited significantly higher fasting blood glucose and triglyceride levels.
  • Only former smoking was independently associated with increased dysglycemic risk after adjustment for potential confounders
