Low molecular-weight fucoidan protects against hindlimb ischemic injury in type 2 diabetic mice through enhancing endothelial nitric oxide synthase phosphorylation: 低分子量褐藻多糖硫酸酯通过促进内皮型一氧化氮合成酶磷酸化减轻2型糖尿病小鼠下肢缺血性损伤
- Pages: 820-834
- First Published: 06 April 2018
Highlights
- Diabetes often causes peripheral arterial disease (PAD), which is the main cause of foot gangrene and amputation.
- Angiogenesis in ischemic tissue is an ideal therapeutic approach to treat PAD.
- Low molecular weight fucoidan significantly promotes angiogenesis by enhancing endothelial nitric oxide synthase phosphorylation and vascular endothelial growth factor expression in ischemic muscles of db/db mice and protects against pathological injury.
Accelerated executive functions decline and gray matter structural changes in middle-aged type 1 diabetes mellitus patients with proliferative retinopathy: 合并增殖性视网膜病变的中年1型糖尿病患者的执行功能加速下降与灰质结构改变
- Pages: 835-846
- First Published: 17 April 2018
Highlights
- In middle-aged type 1 diabetes mellitus patients with proliferative retinopathy at baseline, executive function performance showed a moderate decline over 3.5 years.
- This was mirrored by loss of frontal and parietal cortical structure.
- Both changes were related to worse glycemic control during follow-up.

Associations of sleep duration and prediabetes prevalence in a middle-aged and elderly Chinese population with regard to age and hypertension: The China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study baseline survey: 在中老年中国人群中研究老龄化和高血压对睡眠时长与糖尿病前期患病率之间关系:中国健康与养老追踪基线调查
- Pages: 847-856
- First Published: 24 March 2018
Highlights
- In a cross-sectional study of middle-aged and elderly Chinese, short sleep duration was a modifiable lifestyle factor associated with a higher risk of prediabetes.
- Aging and hypertension may be important in the relationship between short sleep duration and impaired glucose metabolism.
Interleukin-2 receptor antagonists: Protective factors against new-onset diabetes after renal transplantation: 白细胞介素2受体拮抗剂:肾移植后新发糖尿病的保护因素
- Pages: 857-865
- First Published: 25 March 2018
Highlights
- Previous findings regarding the relationship between interleukin-2 receptor antagonists (IL-2Ra) and new-onset diabetes after transplantation (NODAT) are controversial.
- This study reveals that the use of IL-2Ra protects against the development of NODAT in renal transplant recipients.
Human herpesvirus 8 infection DNA positivity is associated with low insulin secretion: A case-control study in a sub-Saharan African population with diabetes: 感染8型人类疱疹病毒后的DNA阳性与低胰岛素分泌相关:一项对撒哈拉沙漠以南的非洲糖尿病患者的病例对照研究
- Pages: 866-873
- First Published: 29 April 2018
Highlights
- Viruses may induce both insulin resistance and insulin secretory defects in diabetes.
- An association between human herpesvirus 8 (HHV8) infection and ketosis-prone diabetes has been suggested previously. In the present study, HHV8 DNA positivity was associated with low insulin secretion.
- In addition, HHV8 DNA positivity was associated with an atherogenic profile and a lower body mass index.
Plasma bile acid changes in type 2 diabetes correlated with insulin secretion in two-step hyperglycemic clamp: 静脉-口服双重高糖钳夹中2型糖尿病患者血浆胆汁酸变化与胰岛素分泌的相关性
- Pages: 874-885
- First Published: 17 April 2018
Highlights
- The present study is the first to observe dynamic changes in human plasma bile acid (BA) profiles during a two-step hyperglycemic clamp experiment in human subjects.
- Plasma bile acids levels dynamically changed throughout the two-step hyperglycemic clamp.
- There were decreases in indices of microbiota-related BA composition (e.g. ursodeoxycholic acid/lithocholic acid and unconjugated/conjugated BA ratios) in subjects with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) versus those with normal glucose tolerance, and these were positively correlated with insulin secretion, particularly with the first phase of insulin secretion.
Differential mRNA expression of neuroinflammatory modulators in the spinal cord and thalamus of type 2 diabetic monkeys: 在2型糖尿病猴的脊髓与丘脑中神经炎症调节因子mRNA表达的差异性
- Pages: 886-895
- First Published: 11 May 2018
Highlights
- Whether neuroinflammatory modulators, such as cytokines, toll-like receptors (TLR), growth factors, and cannabinoid receptors, change differentially in type 2 diabetic primates is unknown.
- We found that mRNA expression of inflammatory cytokines (interleukin-1β and tumor necrosis factor-α), TLR1, and TLR2 were upregulated in the spinal cord of diabetic monkeys, and positively correlated with plasma glucose levels.
- This study indicates that several ligands and receptors involved in neuroinflammation are simultaneously dysregulated in diabetic primates.

Prevalence differentiations of periodontitis by diabetic status among US adults: 在美国成年人中糖尿病相关的牙周炎患病率差异
- Pages: 896-898
- First Published: 14 May 2018
Highlights
- Using National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) data, this study found that the prevalence of periodontitis among US adults was consistently significantly higher for patients with DM than without DM, regardless of gender, age, race/ethnicity, and socioeconomic status.
- The findings indicate that more cost-effective strategies should be used in patients with DM to prevent, reduce or alleviate periodontal disease.
Skin autofluorescence, a non-invasive biomarker for advanced glycation end products, is not related to the number of pregnancies: 皮肤自发荧光强度是一种非侵入性的晚期糖基化终末产物的生物标志物, 与妊娠次数无关
- Pages: 899-901
- First Published: 17 May 2018
Highlights
- Skin autofluorescence (SAF) assesses subcutaneous accumulation of advanced glycation end products and has been shown to predict future cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
- A higher number of pregnancies was significantly associated with higher SAF, even after correction for relevant confounders like waist circumference, creatinine clearance, and diabetes status, but not after correction for age.
- Women with the highest SAF Z-score had a more unfavorable risk factor profile, with higher body mass index and waist circumference, higher blood pressure, lower high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and higher triglyceride levels.
