Description

Flow and transport phenomena application areas vary widely and include groundwater contamination, carbon sequestration, air pollution, petroleum exploration and recovery, weather prediction, chemical separation processes, and many others. On the other hand, mathematical models of flow and transport phenomena may take many forms, including but not limited to dynamical systems, statistical models, or differential equations. These and other types of models can overlap, with a given model involving a variety of analysis. In addition, the solution procedure and its properties are to apply advanced discretization methods including finite elements, finite volumes, and finite differences to the governing equations, which are all have various types of mathematical analysis. Moreover, solution techniques of interest including multiscale algorithms, mesh adaptation, parallel algorithms and implementation, efficient splitting or decomposition schemes, and others are also subjected to many theoretical aspects as well as mathematical and computational analyses.

We invite original research articles as well as review articles describing the recent advances in mathematical modeling and theoretical analysis of flow and transport phenomena. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Flow and transport phenomena in porous media or in open spaces
  • Thermodynamic and computation of fluid flow and fluid properties
  • Discretization based on advanced finite element, finite volume, or finite different methods of flow and transport problems
  • A priori and a posteriori error estimates in discretizations and decompositions of flow and transport problems
  • Multiscale and/or adaptive algorithms and implementation of flow and transport problems
  • Decomposition methods and parallel computations of flow and transport simulation
  • Heat and mass transfer phenomena in laminar and turbulent flows
  • Flow and transport of Newtonian, non-Newtonian, micropolar, nanofluids, ferrofluids, and so forth
  • Flow and transport simulation of oil reservoir engineering, groundwater hydrology, bioremediation, solid-fluid problems, diffusion in materials, electromagnetic field applications, complex flow phenomena, and others
