Cell-mediated immunity to SARS-CoV-2

Cell-mediated immunity to SARS-CoV-2

This review mainly describes the cellular immunological features of COVID-19, including an uncontrolled innate immune response leading to cytokine storm, and severe lymphopenia and exhaustion of T cells. The potential COVID-19 immunotherapeutic approaches mainly targeting at blocking inflammatory cytokines and restoring immune cell function have been extensively investigated with many ongoing clinical trials.

Cryptic diversity and significant cophylogenetic signal detected by DNA barcoding the rust fungi (Pucciniaceae) of Cyperaceae–Juncaceae

Cryptic diversity and significant cophylogenetic signal detected by DNA barcoding the rust fungi (Pucciniaceae) of Cyperaceae–Juncaceae

Phylogenies of Cyperaceae, Juncaceae, and their rusts (Pucciniaceae) are congruent, despite few cospeciation events, suggesting that preferential host jumps generated the cophylogenetic signal. Host diversification may have promoted parasite diversification, given the temporal congruence between the origin of major Carex clades and their rusts. This large DNA barcoding effort (252 sequences, 82 taxa) also uncovered many potential cryptic species.

Dimensionless parameter predicts bacterial prodrug success

A computational model of bacteria-prodrug activation kinetics Predicting prodrug success with a dimensionless parameter A bacteria-activatable prodrug targets E. coli protease OmpT Validating the model and predicting prodrug success with E. coli DH5a and AMP Prodrug Measuring kinetic parameters for the AMP Prodrug model Calculating bacterial growth rate and enzymatic activity in the AMP prodrug system Bacterial carrying capacity measurements for all conditions in the AMP prodrug system Parent drug control for all conditions in AMP prodrug system Manipulating the BAH by changing the linker sequence on AMP prodrugs Validating the model and predicting prodrug success with TM-TMP and UTI89 E. coli Proposed cleavage of TM-TMP in the presence of exogenous thiols Predicting the BAH value for the model TM-TMP system Measuring kinetic parameters for the TM-TMP Prodrug model Simulating the dependence of BAHcrit on a and b Dimensionless parameter predicts bacterial prodrug success

Analyses of potential prodrug failure mechanisms show that prodrugs that rely on pathogen-specific pathways for conversion are susceptible to competing rates of prodrug activation and bacterial replication, which could lead to prodrug treatment escape and failure.

Chronic cerebral aspects of long COVID, post-stroke syndromes and similar states share their pathogenesis and perispinal etanercept treatment logic

This article is about how the neurological aspects of long COVID (fatigue, neurogenic pain, loss of ability to taste or smell), can be best understood, and treated. For this purpose, the literature on TNF and brain function, both physiological and disease-associated, and how this is being applied to various long-term neurodegenerative conditions, is discussed.
