Jalma Klein, Vanessa S. Lima, JoséM. C. Feira, Rosmary N. Brandalise and Maria M. C. Forte investigate the flocculation efficiency of cashew gum grafted polyacrylamide copolymers using an aqueous kaolin suspension. In acidic medium, the protonated amide nitrogen enhances the interaction with negatively charged particles to produce large agglomerates. The destabilization of kaolin particles is due to charge neutralization that reduces the potential energy of repulsion between adjacent colloidal particles. The cover depicts kaolin particles attached to the electrolyte graft copolymer, where the yellow particles correspond to kaolin. (DOI: 10.1002/app.43634)
