Exosomal miR-199a-3p Secreted From Cancer-Associated Adipocytes Promotes Pancreatic Cancer Progression

miR-199a-3p in CAA-derived exosomes contributes to the malignant transformation of pancreatic cancer via the SOCS7/STAT3/SAA1 pathway, suggesting its potential as a biomarker and therapeutic target for PDAC.

Late subsequent leukemia after childhood cancer: A report from the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study (CCSS)

Late subsequent leukemia after childhood cancer: A report from the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study (CCSS)

Although subsequent short-latency leukemias are well described-among survivors of childhood cancer, late (5–14.9 years from diagnosis) and very late (>15 years from diagnosis) have not been well studied. We assessed prevalence, risk factors, and outcomes for late and very late subsequent leukemias in the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study (CCSS) cohort. In this large number of observed late and very late leukemias among survivors of childhood cancer, we observed that the risk for subsequent leukemia persisted beyond 10 years, which was a previously established plateau in the literature. We hope that this study will stimulate ongoing research into the need for additional screening recommendations for survivors of childhood cancer as they continue to age.

Enhancing colorectal cancer screening in high-risk population through fecal immunochemical test surveillance: Results from a surveillance program

Colorectal cancer remains a major public health concern and there is a continuing need to refine and develop effective strategies for early detection and prevention, particularly in populations at higher than average risk. Our study investigates the effectiveness and benefits of Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT) surveillance in individuals with high-risk for colorectal cancer. Key findings from our study indicate that FIT surveillance in high-risk population demonstrates promising results in terms of early detection and prevention of colorectal cancer and advanced colorectal neoplasia.

Factors Guiding Clinical Decision-Making in Genitourinary Oncology

Clinical decision-making in genitourinary oncology is a complex process shaped by multiple factors. Decision-making in routine clinical practice was assessed within a real-world scenario. Fifty-nine criteria influence decision-making, thereof 23 decision-maker-related, 20 decision-specific, and 16 contextual factors. Expanding decision criteria to encompass cognitive, emotional, and human aspects is critical for full comprehension. Ensuring that decision-relevant information is accessible and of high quality for the entire healthcare team is critical.

Advancements in hydrogel-based embolic agents: Categorized by therapeutic mechanisms

Transcatheter arterial embolization is an promising technique in treating a variety of diseases, including cancers. However, the previous category did not fix the multifunctional therapeutic agents-loaded hydrogel embolic agents. In our comprehensive review, we present a fresh perspective on the in vivo procedure of transcatheter arterial embolization, including transition, accumulation, interaction, and elimination. Our aim is to inspire material scientists and interventional radiologists to explore innovative perspectives and approaches in this field.

New ABL1 Kinase Domain Mutations in BCR::ABL1-Positive Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

We reported the insight of ABL1 KD mutations, especially the new ones (R239G, F401V/L, R516L, and K262T) located in the area that have not been well explored yet. Clinical observation and cell viability detection demonstrated that these new mutations possessed resistance to imatinib but remained sensitive to olverembatinib.

New Anti-Angiogenic Therapy for Glioblastoma With the Anti-Depressant Sertraline

Mouse glioma stem like cells-derived endothelial cells compensate for the reduction of tumor blood vessels by anti-angiogenic therapy in VEGF pathway. The combination of anti-depressant sertraline and VEGF inhibitor is a novel anti-angiogenic strategy for glioblastoma.

Safety and Efficacy of Rechallenge With Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors in Advanced Solid Tumor: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Our study provides a significant contribution to the field of oncology, particularly in understanding the nuanced impact of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) on patient outcomes after rechallenge. Our study is relevant to Cancer Medicine, as it answers a crucial question in immunotherapy and offers practical insights for clinical decision-making through a comprehensive review of existing evidence. Our detailed data synthesis and statistical analyses will benefit clinicians and researchers in navigating ICI treatment complexities. Our manuscript adds to the discourse on immunotherapy and lays the foundation for future research.

Ethnic and racialized disparities in the use of screening services for pap smears and mammograms in Canada

This study investigates ethnic and racialized disparities in breast and cervical cancer screenings in Canada using population-based data from 2015 to 2019. Findings reveal substantial screening gaps, particularly affecting West Asian, South Asian, and Black communities, emphasizing the urgent need for targeted interventions to ensure equitable access to essential preventive measures across all ethnicities.

Preoperative Inflammatory Scores Do Not Accurately Predict Early Recurrence of Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma After Resection: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

In this study, we investigated the ability of preoperative inflammatory scores to predict early recurrence after pancreatic resection of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. We found that the modified Glasgow Prognostic Score, Prognostic Nutritional Index, platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, and Systemic Immune-Inflammation Index did not show suitable diagnostic accuracy to predict recurrence in the first 12 months after resection. These inflammatory scores are not helpful in selecting the best surgical candidates.
