Global prevalence of prediabetes in children and adolescents: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Highlights

  • There was a growing trend in childhood prediabetes prevalence worldwide with time and BMI.
  • Higher prevalence was observed for males than females, older than younger children, urban than rural areas, and children with family histories of diabetes than those without such a history.

Increased neutrophil count Is associated with the development of chronic kidney disease in patients with diabetes

Highlights

Neutrophil count was an independent risk factor for CKD in patients with diabetes, especially when it exceeded 3.6 × 109/L, and increased neutrophil count could predict progression of CKD in patients with diabetes.

Health utilities in Chinese patients with coronary heart disease and impaired glucose tolerance (ACE): A longitudinal analysis of a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial

Highlights

  • The Acarbose Cardiovascular Evaluation (ACE) trial assessed the effects of acarbose in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) and impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) in China.
  • Acarbose treatment did not impact on health-related quality of life in ACE trial participants with CHD and IGT.
  • Myocardial infarction (MI), stroke, heart failure, and angina were found to reduce health-related quality of life around the time they occurred; only MI and stroke may impact on longer-term health-related quality of life.

Comparison of six anthropometric measures in discriminating diabetes: A cross-sectional study from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey

Highlights

  • Our study retrospectively analyzed 46 979 members of the noninstitutionalized US population and found that anthropometric parameters, including weight, body mass index, waist circumference (WC), waist-to-height ratio (WtHR), A Body Shape Index, and conicity index (CI), had a significant positive correlation with diabetes.
  • CI, a novel central-obesity index based on WC, weight, and height, showed the strongest discriminatory power among these six indices.
  • WtHR is the second-best anthropometric index after CI; with the advantages of being robust and straightforward, WtHR may be a good alternative for identifying diabetes.

Discrepancies in glycemic metrics derived from different continuous glucose monitoring systems in adult patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus

Highlights

  • The accordance between the paired dataset between FSL and iPro2 was acceptable but poorer in hypoglycemic range.
  • Significant differences for glycemic metrics between iPro2 and FSL were observed in time in range 70–180 mg/dL, coefficient of variation, and hypoglycemia-related parameters (including time below range 54 mg/dL and 70mg/dL).
  • The study reminded us when using the CGM for clinical decisions and clinical trials, it is necessary to consider the model heterogeneity.
