Shenzhen Third People's Hospital/The Second affiliated Hospital of Southern University of Science and Technology (hereafter referred to as “the hospital”) was founded in 1985 by the Shenzhen municipal government. It is a grade A tertiary general hospital characterized by “strong specialty and comprehensive medical services”. The hospital covers an area of around 198,400 square meters with 211,000 square meters construction area and 2416 hospital beds (including 1008 in negative pressure wards in the emergency campus for infectious diseases). The hospital has 2040 staffs, and of those, 1145 have mid-, senior- professional titles, 157 have doctoral degrees (or post-doctoral experience), 463 have master’s degrees, 90 have been entitled to become supervisors of postgraduate students. This hospital trained two holders of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars independently. By far, the hospital has become a large, well-equipped clinical and research center of infectious diseases in the Peal River Delta offering comprehensive services. Thus it contributes to the control of infectious disease and major public health emergency and benefits patients in Shenzhen and adjacent areas.
