MiR-146a Reduces Inflammation in Experimental Pancreatitis via the TRAF6–NF-κB Signaling Pathway in Mice

Overexpression of miR-146a leads to reduced pancreatic damage and inflammation by downregulating the TRAF6/NF-κB pathway. By examining different models of AP (induced by caerulein, l-arginine, and caerulein combined with LPS), the research underscores miR-146a's broad applicability in reducing pancreatic inflammation and damage across various AP contexts. MiR-146a as a promising target for therapeutic intervention in AP, given its significant role in dampening inflammation through the TRAF6/NF-κB pathway.

Aurantio-Obtusin Suppresses Airway Inflammation and Serum ICAM-1 Expression in Guinea Pig Allergic Asthma Model

Aurantio-obtusin mitigated ovalbumin-induced allergic asthma by impeding the production of OVAsIgE and suppressing the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines. These findings support the therapeutic potential of aurantio-obtusin for the management of asthma and other airway inflammatory disorders.

Lymphocyte Subpopulations in the Healthy Human Lacrimal Gland and Their Variations With Age and Sex, Systematic Review 1960–2023

The articles evaluated the lymphocyte infiltration with hematoxylin and eosin staining, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence. Plasma cells were the most abundant lymphocyte type in the healthy lacrimal gland, including IgA-containing plasma cells. This research updates the evidence available in this field, generates hypotheses to guide subsequent studies and demonstrates that it is an under-researched topic in immunology

Case Report: Concurrent Babesiosis and GCA/PMR

Babesiosis is a tick-transmitted infectious disease caused by parasites of the genus Babesia. Giant cell arteritis (GCA) and polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) are common interrelated inflammatory disorders. This report presents the first case of concurrent babesiosis and GCA/PMR.

Impact of COVID-19 on Respiratory Virus Infections in Children, Japan, 2018–2023

The increased rhinovirus prevalence, rather than SARS-CoV-2, may have contributed to the decrease in enveloped virus infections, possibly due to negative virus-virus interactions.

Clinicopathological Characteristics and Outcomes of Lupus Nephritis Patients With Thrombocytopenia: A Single-Center Retrospective Study

LN patients with thrombocytopenia showed a higher SLE disease activity index. The prognosis was similar between LN patients with and without thrombocytopenia. Anemia was a risk factor for death in LN patients with thrombocytopenia.

Ferroptosis-Related Genes Are Effective Markers for Diagnostic Targets of Crohn's Disease

Ferroptosis-Related Genes Are Effective Markers for Diagnostic Targets of Crohn's Disease

We found decreased serum iron and ferritin levels in CD patients compared to healthy controls. Combined detection of ferroptosis-related genes is of great value in the diagnosis of CD, with the specificity even reaching 100%. The expression levels of these ferroptosis-related genes are related to M0 macrophages, mast cells resting, and neutrophil recruitment.

Integration of Metabolomics and 16S Ribosomal RNA Sequencing to Elucidate the Pathogenesis of Ankylosing Spondylitis

Disrupted gut microbiota and altered metabolites are present in AS patients. The analysis of microbiome and metabolomic data revealed significant differences between AS patients and HCs.

Serum Lactate Dehydrogenase Levels Reflect the Lung Injury Extension in COVID-19 Patients at Hospital Admission

The relationship between the lung involvement expressed by quantitative computed tomography (CALIPER) and a set of blood parameters related to tissue oxygenation and damage in COVID-19 patients at hospital admission was evaluated in a retrospective and a prospective study involving 321 and 75, respectively, COVID-19-positive patients. The results evidence that the lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) serum levels could be considered as a tool for early identification of COVID-19 patients at risk of extensive lung injury, as well as in fast screening procedures before hospitalization.

Tumor Cell-Expressed Herpesvirus Entry Mediator Regulates Proliferation and Adaptive Immunity in Ovarian Cancer

(1) Tumor cell-expressed herpesvirus entry mediator (HVEM) was found to promote ovarian cancer (OvCa) cell proliferation by partly activating XBP1s-cMyc signaling. (2) Tumor cell-expressed HVEM specifically affected the effects of adaptive immunity and contributed to OvCa progression in mice. (3) Tumor cell-expressed HVEM altered chemokine expression and the STAT signal activation in ID8 cells.

The Role of miR-144 in Inflammatory Diseases: A Review

In most cases, the expression of miR-144 was downregulated, and it exerted corresponding biological effects by negatively regulating downstream target genes. Our reviews show that miR-144 has the potential to become a diagnostic biomarker and therapeutic target for various inflammatory diseases.
