Corneal Graft Rejection Is Accompanied by Apoptosis of the Endothelium and Is Prevented by Gene Therapy With Bcl-xL
- Pages: 2082-2089
- First Published: 05 July 2007
This approach to improving corneal allograft survival involves lentiviral delivery of Bcl-xl to the corneal endothelium.
Global Unresponsiveness as a Mechanism of Natural Killer Cell Tolerance in Mixed Xenogeneic Chimeras
- Pages: 2090-2097
- First Published: 09 August 2007
This paper shows that low levels of mixed xenogeneic chimerism induce global unresponsiveness of recipient natural killer cells, supporting an anergy model for NK cell “tolerance”.
ESDN Is a Marker of Vascular Remodeling and Regulator of Cell Proliferation in Graft Arteriosclerosis
- Pages: 2098-2105
- First Published: 09 August 2007
A neuropilin like protein, ESDN, is increased in the course of vascular remodeling in graft arteriosclerosis and regulates cell proliferation in vascular smooth muscle cells.

Oral Valganciclovir Is Noninferior to Intravenous Ganciclovir for the Treatment of Cytomegalovirus Disease in Solid Organ Transplant Recipients
- Pages: 2106-2113
- First Published: 09 August 2007
Oral valganciclovir is an effective and safe treatment option for CMV disease in solid organ transplant recipients. See also editorial by Avery in this issue on page 2062.
Tacrolimus Exposure and Evolution of Renal Allograft Histology in the First Year After Transplantation
- Pages: 2114-2123
- First Published: 03 July 2007
This study of protocol biopsies shows that immune-mediated injuries remain important in the early progression of chronic allograft pathology while incident tacrolimus exposure is not associated with histological lesions suggestive of CNI-nephrotoxicity.
Transplant Glomerulopathy: Subclinical Incidence and Association with Alloantibody
- Pages: 2124-2132
- First Published: 03 July 2007
Transplant glomerulopathy is often detected on biopsies showing minimal histologic abnormalities otherwise, and is highly associated with anti-HLA class II antibodies present at transplant indicating that antibody-mediated injury is an important cause of transplant glomerulopathy.
The Long-Term Prognosis of Renal Transplant in Patients With Systemic Vasculitis
- Pages: 2133-2139
- First Published: 09 August 2007
In 19 renal transplant recipients with systemic vasculitis, graft and patient survival was good, despite seven patients having recurrent vasculitis.

- Pages: 2140-2151
- First Published: 09 August 2007
In the Australian and New Zealand Dialysis and Transplant Registry (ANZDATA), cancer rates in kidney recipients are similar to non-transplanted people 20-30 years older but absolute risk differs among patient groups.
Increased Urologic Complications in Children After Kidney Transplants for Obstructive and Reflux Uropathy
- Pages: 2152-2157
- First Published: 09 August 2007
Pediatric patients who underwent a kidney transplant for obstructive or reflux nephropathy developed more urologic complications post-transplant, including acidosis and infections in those undergoing bladder augmentation.
Determinants of Coronary Artery Calcification Progression in Renal Transplant Recipients
- Pages: 2158-2164
- First Published: 09 August 2007
