MRI Assessment of Geometric Microstructural Changes of White Matter in Infants With Periventricular White Matter Injury and Spastic Cerebral Palsy

Fiber Bundle Regions with Statistically Significant Differences in WM Microstructure between Groups Based on Traditional DTI Metrics (FA, MD) and DFA Metrics (Splay, Bend, Twist, and Total Distortion). Green Denoted WM Skeleton. Significant Changes Voxels (P < 0.05, TFCE Corrected for Multiple Comparisons) were Thickened by Using the Tract-Based Spatial Statistics Fill Function into Local Tracts (Red/Blue). Comparing PWMI-NONSCP with Healthy Children (A), PWMI-SCP with Healthy Children (B), and PWMI-NONSCP with PWMI-SCP (C). (D) Illustration of the Significantly Increased Twist of the DFA Metrics in the Corpus Callosum in PWMI-SCP Compared with PWMI-NONSCP while A Similar Pattern is Shown in the Tensor Field in FA Between the Two Groups. DFA = Director Field Analysis; FA = Fractional Anisotropy; MD = Mean Diffusion; PWMI = Periventricular White Matter Injury; SCP = Spastic Cerebral Palsy; TFCE = Threshold Free Cluster Enhancement; WM = White Matter. Quantitative Analysis of Orbital Soft Tissues Using Three-Dimensional Fast Spin Echo With 2-Point Dixon-Based Fat Suppression Sequence: Its Association With Methylprednisolone Pulse Therapy Treatment Efficacy in Thyroid-Associated Ophthalmopathy

Plain Language Summary

This study aimed to identify imaging biomarkers for the efficacy of methylprednisolone pulse therapy (MPPT) in thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy (TAO). Using 3D fast spin echo with 2-point Dixon-based fat suppression sequence, the authors measured volume and water fraction of orbital soft tissues and developed a classification model. Results showed that mean water fraction of extraocular muscles can be used to evaluate MPPT efficacy, while volume cannot. This article introduces a simple and effective biomarker and the supporting MRI sequence for MPPT outcomes in TAO patients.
