Metabolic abnormalities, liver and body fat in American versus Chinese patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease

One-hundred and one American (University of Michigan Health System) and one-hundred and sixty Chinese (Peking University Health Sciences Center) patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease were included in this study and 64 in each cohort were matched for sex, age, and body mass index category.

Molecular and clinicopathological analysis of three cases of gastric juvenile polyposis

Strong nuclear expression of SMAD4, even under the presence of genetic alterations, seems to be closely associated with dysplastic polyps in juvenile polyposis (JP). Complete inactivation of SMAD4 was not shown to be essential for the development of dysplastic polyps in gastric JP, and other pathways seemed to be involved in the acquisition of the malignant phenotype.

Anemia and iron deficiency anemia are related to Helicobacter pylori infection in our milieu. Hence, H. pylori infection should always be considered as a possible cause of iron deficiency anemia in our milieu. Careful consideration and appropriate interventions for H. pylori eradication are crucial not only for the possibility to improve anemia and iron status but also to avoid hematological complications.

Safety and efficacy of pentazocine–midazolam combination for pain and anxiety relief in radiofrequency ablation therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma

Early sedative administration can relieve a patient's anxiety about radiofrequency ablation (RFA) treatment. The amnestic effect of midazolam administration significantly reduces the pain of RFA treatment in patients.
