IMPACT (Information Medically Pertinent in Acute Computed Tomography) requests: Delphi study to develop criteria standards for adequate clinical information in computed tomography requests in the Australian emergency department
- Pages: 421-430
- First Published: 14 July 2022

Currently, in Australia there are no published guidelines on what constitutes adequate clinical information in requests for Computed Tomography (CT). An e-Delphi study was conducted to gain consensus from CT reporting consultant radiologists as to what constitutes adequate clinical information for patients presenting to the emergency department with chest symptoms, abdominal symptoms or blunt trauma (CT trauma series). Through a four-stage e-Delphi process, we have formulated criteria standards for essential clinical information required in CT requests for emergency presentations of the chest, abdomen and for multi-trauma CT scans.
Is there benefit to concurrent x-ray imaging of the wrist, forearm and elbow in paediatric patients following a fall on the outstretched hand?
- Pages: 431-438
- First Published: 16 August 2022

There is a limited benefit (1.7%), of concurrent imaging of the wrist, elbow and forearm in paediatric patients following a FOOSH where there is no clinical indication for imaging outside of the region of interest. Results support previous findings that a thorough clinical assessment of the wrist, forearm and elbow is sufficient to guide X-ray imaging.
A pilot study investigating the role of 18F-FDG-PET in the early identification of chemoradiotherapy response in anal cancer
- Pages: 439-447
- First Published: 30 July 2022

Anal cancer (AC) is 18F-FDG-PET avid and has been used to evaluate treatment response several months after chemoradiotherapy. This pilot study aimed to assess the utility of semi-automated contouring methods and quantitative measures of treatment response using 18F-FDG-PET imaging at the early timepoint of one-month post-chemoradiotherapy.
Novel methodology to quantify dehydration in head and neck cancer radiotherapy using DIXON MRI
- Pages: 448-455
- First Published: 28 June 2022

Head and neck cancer (HNC) patients are at risk of weight change, due to inadequate nutrition intake or dehydration, when receiving radiotherapy (RT). 4This study aimed to develop methodology to measure water content changes on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans of the head and neck region over the course of RT.
Pencil-beam scanning proton therapy for the treatment of glomus jugulare tumours
- Pages: 456-462
- First Published: 16 August 2022

The rare locally destructive glomus jugulare tumours could be treated using pencil-beam scanning proton therapy (an alternative to surgery). Proton therapy provides good local control and acceptable toxicity. This paper reports treatment outcomes, acute and early late toxicities of 12 patients with glomus jugulare tumours.
What is the effect of a low literacy talking book on patient knowledge, anxiety and communication before radiation therapy starts? A pilot study
- Pages: 463-472
- First Published: 15 July 2022

We pilot tested a low literacy, psycho-educational talking book (written booklet, with accompanying audio-recording) to examine: (i) the effect of the tool on knowledge, anxiety, concerns and communication; and (ii) acceptability. The talking book shows promise in improving knowledge, reducing anxiety, and enhancing communication.

Acute toxicity and patient-reported outcomes in anal canal cancer: results of a pilot study
- Pages: 484-491
- First Published: 25 June 2022

After reaching their maximum at the end of treatment, the majority of toxicity and patient reported outcomes (PROs) items approached baseline levels by 3 months post treatment. The results of this study suggest that PROs are an important complementary tool to Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Effects (CTCAE) and provide greater understanding of patients perception of treatment side effects.
Three-dimensional printer use in the Australian and New Zealand radiation therapy setting
- Pages: 492-501
- First Published: 12 September 2022

This cross-sectional survey aimed to established a baseline of 3D printer and product use within Australian and New Zealand radiation therapy departments. Survey response rate was 100% with 22.3% of departments reporting ownership of one or more 3D printers, and 34 departments purchasing 3D printed products from an external provider. This research successfully established a baseline for 3D printer and product use within the radiation therapy setting.

68Ga-nitroimidazole PET/CT imaging of hypoxia in tuberculosis: A case series
- Pages: 518-524
- First Published: 27 June 2022

There is increasing application of PET/CT imaging in infectious diseases such as tuberculosis. Imaging potential stressors such as hypoxia, using a novel Ga-68 labelled hypoxia seeking agent, has the potential to identify patients who may benefit from individualised treatment strategies. This case series highlights promising initial results of hypoxia PET/CT imaging in tuberculosis.
