Silicon Enhances Yield in Dry-Cultivated Rice/Soybean Intercropping Systems by Altering Root Morphology and Distribution

Intercropping promoted the root growth of soybean, while inhibiting that of dry-cultivated rice through asymmetric interspecific competition. Silicon (Si) application increased the total yield of the intercropping system by enhancing the root morphology and distribution characteristics, especially root surface area, in both dry-cultivated rice and soybean.
