From Past Challenges to Future Hopes: Conservation Trends in Sri Lanka
Submission deadline: Wednesday, 30 April 2025
Integrative Conservation is pleased to announce a call for papers for a special issue titled "From Past Challenges to Future Hopes: Conservation Trends in Sri Lanka". This collection of papers will provide researchers and conservationists with a valuable platform to present a comprehensive synopsis of Sri Lankan biodiversity conservation, focusing on past challenges, current trends, and future aspirations.
Sri Lanka is renowned for its rich biodiversity, boasting numerous endemic species across diverse ecosystems, ranging from coastal regions to misty mountains. However, the island's unique biodiversity faces significant challenges. Habitat loss caused by deforestation, agricultural expansion, and urbanization poses a major threat to wildlife. In addition, climate change, pollution, and invasive species further exacerbate these issues, placing immense pressure on natural ecosystems. Addressing these threats requires a holistic approach, integrating scientific research, community engagement, and policy interventions to ensure the preservation of Sri Lanka’s invaluable biodiversity.
The Importance of the Special Issue: Scientific publications play a pivotal role in conservation efforts by fostering knowledge exchange, informing policy decisions, and guiding effective action. In Sri Lanka, where conservation challenges are complex and multifaceted, publishing research findings provides a foundation for evidence-based solutions. Documenting and disseminating case studies, innovative technologies, and policy recommendations contribute to building a global understanding of the unique challenges faced by the country. Moreover, scientific publications ensure that lessons learned from Sri Lanka’s conservation efforts can inspire and guide initiatives in similar ecosystems worldwide, highlighting the critical role of research in preserving biodiversity.
We invite contributions from researchers, conservationists, and practitioners working in the field of biodiversity conservation in Sri Lanka. Submissions may include empirical investigations, syntheses, narrative reviews, innovative perspectives, or theoretical integrations. Topics of interest include case studies of successful and unsuccessful conservation initiatives, policy analyses and recommendations, conservation technology, human-wildlife conflicts and coexistence, and the impact of climate change on biodiversity. This special issue aims to provide a comprehensive overview of Sri Lanka’s conservation landscape, fostering a deeper understanding and encouraging future research and action.
Topics for this call for papers include but are not restricted to:
- Issues in biodiversity conservation in Sri Lanka
- Usage of cutting-edge technologies in conservation
