About EFI

The European Federation for Immunogenetics (EFI) (previously known as The European Foundation for Immunogenetics) was formally founded in March 1985, and is registered in the Register of Associations in the Tribunal d'Instance de Strasbourg.

The purposes of the Association are:

  1. To support the development of Immunogenetics in Europe as a discipline of medicine and promote research and training in this field.
  2. To provide a forum for exchange of scientific information and to reinforce the skills and knowledge of young scientists and others working in the field.
  3. To create a formal organisation of workers in the field of immunogenetics, histocompatibility testing and transplantation.
  4. To develop recommendations for the standardisation of techniques, quality control and criteria for accreditation and to support their implementation.
  5. To promote the organisation and use of immunogenetic data bases.
  6. To develop relations with organisations with similar aims.

Benefits for EFI members

Membership of EFI is open to all workers in the field of Immunogenetics and Histocompatibility. New Members need to be proposed and seconded by two other EFI Members.

EFI Newsletter
All EFI members receive the EFI Newsletter with the latest news free of charge by post.

Reduced conference fee
EFI Members are eligible for a reduced registration fee at the annual European Histocompatibility Conference

Apply for a bursary
EFI members can apply for the following bursaries:

  • EFI Personal bursary, to attend the annual EFI conference and other EFI approved scientific and educational meetings.
  • EFI Education and Training bursary, to visit another laboratory to learn new techniques and develop research collaborations.
  • EFI International Affairs, to support organisers of educational meetings. This procedure is under review at the moment.

Vote
EFI Members are entitled to participate and vote at the Annual General Assembly during the annual conference, where important decisions are made. Also as EFI member you have a vote during the elections for new committee members.

Access to membership section
EFI members have full access to the membership section of the EFI website. Here you will find interesting publications, education workshop presentations, acces to databases and resources, teaching sessions presentations and HLA Nomenclature Updates.

HLA (previously Tissue Antigens)
All members have free access to HLA (previously Tissue Antigens) the official Journal of EFI. The journal can be accessed in the members are under Resources - HLA and nomenclature updates (you have log in to access this section)

Become a member

To become an EFI member please fill in the Membership application form.

We would like to inform you that it might take some time before the system has processed your application. If you don't receive the confirmation soon please contact the membership secretary ([email protected]) to check if your application has been received before submitting you application again.

After submitting the membership application form you will receive a confirmation with information about your membership number and instructions regarding the payment of your membership fee.

The annual membership fee is 50 Euro (for new members it is 20 euro per year for the first two years).
