Call for Papers

Smell and Taste Disorders

Submission deadline: Tuesday, 30 September 2025

This special issue considers articles and reviews which focus on the clinical and scientific aspects of smell, taste and their disorders. It also welcomes work on new or existing therapies, including stem cell and gene therapy research, either in humans or animal and cellular systems. Proof of concept studies and preclinical pharmacology, pharmacokinetic studies, meta-analyses and papers addressing drug safety and tolerability are also welcome.


Topics of interest for this call for papers include but are not restricted to:

  • Clinical trials for olfactory/gustatory disorders;
  • Pathophysiology of olfactory and gustatory dysfunction;
  • Epidemiology of smell and taste dysfunction;
  • Treatments for qualitative disorders: parosmia, phantosmia, parageusia;
  • Diseases to include: chronic rhinosinusitis, post-infectious olfactory dysfunction, post-traumatic olfactory dysfunction, idiopathic olfactory dysfunction, presbyosmia, olfactory cleft disease;
  • Consideration of hyperosmia, olfactory intolerance, orthonasal olfaction, retronasal olfaction;
  • Preclinical pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, meta-analyses, drug safety, drug tolerability related to olfactory and gustatory disorders.
