Editor-in-Chief
David C. Heins |
David, professor emeritus, retired from the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Tulane University in December 2018 after serving as a dean, department chair, and professor 1982-2018. He focused on the ecology of stream fishes in the southeastern United States and on ecology and host-parasite relationships of stickleback fishes in lakes of Alaska. In addition to authoring numerous research papers, book chapters, and book reviews, David co-edited the book, “Community and Evolutionary Ecology of North American Stream Fishes,” (1987) with William J. Matthews. He was elected as a Fellow of the Linnean Society of London in 2013. David became an editor of the Ecology of Freshwater Fish in 2005 and served in that role 11 years. He became Editor-in-Chief of the journal in 2017. Keywords: ecology, evolution, life history, host-parasite relationship. |
Senior Editors
Nuria Sanz Ball-Ilosera |
Nuria has been working in the Laboratory of Genetics Ichthyology (LIG) of the Department of Biology, University of Girona, since 1996. Her research is focused on identifying evolutionary changes among populations of threatened and exploited species, and estimating valuable genetic resources for sustainable management and conservation. Nuria's investigation with brown trout resulted in many publications, and culminated with the co-edition of the book Brown Trout: Biology, Ecology and Management. She works also with other species of commercial interest, as anchovy and Bluefin tuna, and with invasive species as zebra mussel or the American bullfrog. Nuria has also led the research carried out with phylogenetic of stickleback and hedgehogs. Since 2015, she has been involvde in the organization of the International Symposiums ‘Advances in the Population Ecology of Stream Salmonids’, celebrated every four years. Recently, her work on trout goes on in collaboration with A. Duchi, from Sicily, with the study of the population genetics of Sicilian trout, and with Ichtios Gestión Ambiental SL, to assess the effect of barriers in trout populations and to define a plan for the re-establishment of connectivity in Iberian Rivers. |
Keith Gido![]() Kansas State University Division of Biology Kansas State University Manhattan, KS, USA Email: [email protected] |
Keith is a University Distinguished Professor in the Division of Biology at Kansas State University. He is a field ecologist, focusing on the ecology and management of threatened and endangered species as well as recreational fisheries in the western and central U.S. Research projects have included food web studies, habitat assessments, long-term responses of fishes to climate and flows, interactions between native and nonnative fishes, and response of fishes to fragmentation. Keith has published numerous papers, book chapters and co-edited a book on community ecology of stream fishes. He has mentored over 30 graduate students and teaches upper division undergraduate and graduate courses associated with Fisheries, Aquatic Ecology and Multivariate Statistics. He became Senior Editor of the journal in 2024. Keywords: community ecology, conservation, environmental flows, invasive species, ecosystem effects, food web dynamics, endangered species |
Asbjørn Vøllestad |
Asbjørn is professor in biology at the University of Oslo, Norway, since 1991. Before that he worked for five years at the environmental office of the Østfold County Governor. His research focuses mainly on the ecology and evolution of Norwegian freshwater fishes, with a particular interest in trout, grayling, perch and pike. Overall, understanding life history variation is his main interest. In later years, he has also studied coastal fishes such as wrasses. Throughout his career he has worked with both basic and applied research questions, often in collaboration with national research institutes. In addition to publishing numerous scientific papers (> 220) he has written numerous texts for the general public. He teaches at all levels, and has extensive experience with the supervision of graduate students. He was elected as a Fellow of Academia Europaea in 2015 and The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters in 2018. David became an editor of the Ecology of Freshwater Fish in 2005. |
