Marcelo Rocha, M.D. Ph.D.

Marcelo Rocha, M.D. Ph.D., is Assistant Professor of Neurology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical School, Vascular Neurologist and Director of the Neurovascular Ultrasound laboratory at UPMC.  He completed residency at Massachusetts General and Brigham & Women Hospitals, then stroke and clinical research fellowships at UPMC.  His research is focused on regulation of cerebrovascular hemodynamics and the pathophysiology of variable individual tolerance to stroke.  Dr. Rocha is funded through a career development award from the University of Pittsburgh Pepper Center to study age-dependent disability after stroke due to large vessel occlusion.  He is the principal investigator for the University of Pittsburgh Regional Coordinating Center of the NINDS stroke trials network (StrokeNet), where he also contributes to clinical and translational research education.  Dr. Rocha serves as the site PI for multiple clinical trials of novel therapeutic and preventive interventions to improve patient outcomes after stroke.
