Dr. Erika Fullwood Augustine is Associate Chief Science Officer at the Kennedy Krieger Institute and Associate Professor of Neurology at Johns Hopkins University, in Baltimore, Maryland. Following residency training in Pediatrics and Pediatric Neurology at Harvard University/Boston Children’s Hospital, Dr. Augustine completed dual fellowships in Pediatric Movement Disorders and Experimental Therapeutics. Dr. Augustine specializes in the care of children with movement disorders. Her clinical research program focuses on advancing therapeutic development for rare pediatric neurological disorders, with emphasis on comprehensive clinical phenotyping and clinical trial design. Dr. Augustine leads clinical programs developing novel therapeutics for the neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses (Batten diseases), a group of rare pediatric neurodegenerative disorders. Her current work examines trial readiness of clinical outcomes and digital tools in Batten diseases. Dr. Augustine’s research has been supported by the National Institutes of Health, the Food and Drug Administration, New York State Department of Health, and multiple foundations. In addition to clinical and research efforts, Dr. Augustine has a strong commitment to education and mentoring. As Diversity Officer for the K12 Child Neurologist Career Development Program, Dr. Augustine launched the Minority Research Scholars Program, a collaborative initiative with the Child Neurology Society dedicated to fostering diversity in the next generation of Child Neurologist clinician-scientists. |
