Structural Biology Communications - Acta Crystallographica Section F is a rapid communications journal. We publish structural biology results and methods/software advances from all current and new structural biology techniques, including X-ray, neutron and electron crystallography, NMR spectroscopy, electron microscopy and SAXS. We are also interested in the methods employed to produce high-quality samples used for structure determination, including biomolecule expression, purification and crystallization.

Nucleotide‐bound crystal structures of the SARS‐CoV‐2 helicase NSP13

  •  14 July 2025

Graphical Abstract

Nucleotide-bound crystal structures of the SARS-CoV-2 helicase NSP13 Issue ,

Nucleotide-bound crystal structures of SARS-CoV-2 NSP13 capture a state immediately following ATP hydrolysis and reveal how crystal packing can affect structure-based drug design targeting NSP13.

Crystal structures of Escherichia coli glucokinase and insights into phosphate binding

  •  14 July 2025

Graphical Abstract

Crystal structures of Escherichia coli glucokinase and insights into phosphate binding Issue ,

This work presents the structure of apo Escherichia coli glucokinase (ecGLK) bound with sulfate, a phosphate mimic, and the structure of ecGLK in complex with both glucose and phosphate, implying a role for phosphate in regulating the glucokinase activity.

Crystal structure of the sucrose phosphorylase from Alteromonas mediterranea shows a loop transition in the active site Issue 7, 2025

Sucrose phosphorylases catalyse a bi-bi reaction that interconverts sucrose and phosphate into glucose α-1-phosphate and fructose. Here, we present the first crystal structure of a sucrose phosphorylase from a marine organism.

Graphical Abstract

Structural insights into full-length human fascin1: a target for cancer treatment Issue 7, 2025

This study presents the first fully resolved crystal structure of human fascin1, revealing its conformational plasticity and key interdomain interactions critical for actin bundling and cancer metastasis. These findings provide a structural foundation for the development of allosteric inhibitors and pave the way for time-resolved crystallographic studies to explore fascin1 dynamics in metastasis and drug targeting.

Graphical Abstract

Crystal structure analysis of oxygen-induced degradation occurring in rsCherry Issue 7, 2025

Four crystal structures of rsCherry, where `rs' means reversible switchable, degraded under aerobic conditions provide valuable insights into oxygen-induced degradation in red fluorescent proteins.

  •  6 October 2016

Graphical Abstract

Crystal structure of rofecoxib bound to human cyclooxygenase-2 Issue 10, 2016

New crystallization conditions were identified that allowed the structure determination of human cyclooxygenase-2 in complex with rofecoxib (Vioxx) and the structure was subsequently determined to 2.7 Å resolution.
