Co-Editors-in-Chief: Efstathia Bura and Marianthi Markatou
International Statistical Review is the flagship journal of the International Statistical Institute (ISI) and its family of Associations. We publish research articles of broad and general interest in statistics and probability. Key topics include reviews of significant theoretical or methodological developments, statistical computing and graphics, statistics education, and application areas. Additionally, we consider expository papers on emerging areas of research or application and papers describing new developments and/or challenges in relevant areas, as well as papers addressing foundational issues in statistics. Our readers are researchers and practitioners in academia, government, business and industry.

The Impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on Data Science and Statistics: An International Perspective
Significant advances in data generation technologies and artificial intelligence have impacted and transformed the research and education landscape, offering unprecedented opportunities for further developments in many scientific fields.
AI aims to create machines that replicate virtually human endeavors, such as identifying patterns from data and aiding in early disease diagnosis. We welcome discussion, as well as research papers, on the impact of AI technological advancements on Statistics and Data Science. We are interested in all types of contributions and in particular, contributions discussing the impact of AI technologies on quality data generation, synthetic data use, research, training, and the statistical sciences workforce. We are interested in an international perspective on these developments and their connection, contribution and interaction with Statistics and Data Science. It is hoped this can lead to novel foundational research questions and contribute to further development of the field.
Marianthi Markatou & Efstathia Bura
Co-Editors-in-Chief
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Marianthi Markatou as one of the next Co-Editors-in-Chief of the International Statistical Review. Dr. Markatou replaces Nalini Ravishanker who stepped down at the end of February. Dr. Markatou joins Scott Holan as a Co-Editor-in-Chief. We would like to thank Professor Ravishanker for her dedicated service to the journal.
Dr. Markatou is SUNY Distinguished Professor and Associate Chair of Research and Healthcare Informatics, Department of Biostatistics, School of Public Health and Health Professions, with an additional appointment at the Jacobs School of Medicine, University at Buffalo. Her research interests are broad and include problems at the interface of statistics and machine learning, mixture models, robustness, theory and applications of statistical distances, model assessment and selection, classification and clustering, emerging safety sciences, biomedical informatics, text mining, and other healthcare applications.
Dr. Markatou is an Elected Fellow of the American Statistical Association, an Elected Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, and an Elected Member of the International Statistical Institute. She has twice been awarded a Fulbright fellowship to establish and expand research collaborations between the United States and Greece.
Dr. Markatou was for many years a Professor of Biostatistics and an affiliate Professor of Biomedical Informatics at Columbia University, NY. She has served as a Program Director of Statistics at the National Science Foundation and as a Scientific Advisor to the Office of Biostatistics and Epidemiology, Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER), Food and Drug Administration.
