Pediatric Transplantation

The majority of pediatric liver transplant (LT) centers across the US now offer live viral vaccines (LVVs) for select LT recipients. However, despite new safety and immunogenicity data and updated recommendations, there continue to be barriers to widespread implementation.

Varicella-zoster virus (VZV) reactivation is the most common infectious complication in the late posthematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) period and is reported as 16%–41%. Acyclovir prophylaxis is recommended for at least 1 year after HSCT to prevent VZV infections. However, there is less information on pediatric patients and studies on the most appropriate prophylaxis are ongoing.

We followed 10 patient with chronic pancreatitis who underwent TPIAT and were followed at our multidisciplinary pancreas center.

This multi-center survey of 64 pediatric nephrologists shows that probiotics are being increasingly prescribed to pediatric kidney transplant recipients for various indications, including antibiotic-associated diarrhea, Clostridium difficile infection, and recurrent urinary tract infections. However, significant variations in practice exist, with a lack of safety data being the main deterrent.

Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging of pediatric heart transplant patients with endomyocardial biopsy findings or historical contributors to chronic graft failure presented with findings of ventricular remodeling and abnormalities in myocardial structure. Further studies are needed to assess the role of cardiac magnetic resonance imaging in prognosticating pediatric heart transplant outcomes.

This systematic review highlights elevated cutaneous malignancy risks in pediatric patients after allogeneic HSCT, emphasizing the need for long-term monitoring. The findings underscore the significance of enhanced surveillance and preventive measures to mitigate these risks.

We introduced the combination of a novel youth-adapted medication-manager app and home-sampling by finger-prick microsampling of Tac trough concentrations, in the daily routine of SOT adolescents and young adults. All the participants preferred self-management compared to ordinary outpatient consultations.
