Description

Anterior segment imaging is one of the most rapidly advancing fields in ophthalmology. The development of anterior segment imaging techniques including corneal topography, specular microscopy, confocal microscopy, anterior segment optical coherence tomography, and ultrasound biomicroscopy enabled objective assessment and precise visualization of the anterior segment structures.

The use of these modalities has become necessary for better diagnosis and treatment of diseases including cataract, corneal disorders, glaucoma, and disorders of the lacrimal system. Thus, the introduction of the advances of anterior segment imaging and its clinical application would be interesting and helpful to ophthalmologists worldwide. Moreover, artificial intelligence and machine learning is expected to enhance the reliability of the anterior segment imaging techniques.

The aim of this Special Issue is to collate original research and review articles with a focus on the technologies of anterior segment imaging and clinical application of imaging devices. We are particularly interested in articles about newly developed technologies of anterior segment imaging, application of artificial intelligence and machine learning in anterior segment imaging, use of imaging devices in the diagnosis and treatment of ocular diseases, the use of anterior segment imaging techniques in research and interesting photographs of anterior segment imaging.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Advances in the techniques of anterior segment imaging, such as corneal topography, specular microscopy, confocal microscopy, anterior segment optical coherence tomography, and ultrasound biomicroscopy
  • Diagnostic ability of anterior segment imaging techniques
  • Application of anterior segment imaging devices in the treatment of ocular diseases
  • Measurements and comparison of parameters of anterior segment structures using various anterior segment imaging devices.
  • Application of anterior segment imaging techniques in translational research.
  • Application of artificial intelligence and machine learning in anterior segment imaging techniques.
  • Introduction of novel and experimental techniques of anterior segment imaging
  • Methods of analysis of anterior segment images as well as anterior segment photographs
