In this Virtual Issue, The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering is pleased to feature articles published in the Established Leaders in Chemical Engineering Special Series as well as the Emerging Leaders Special Series as a means of celebrating the outstanding accomplishments of chemical engineering researchers within Canada and abroad.

The January 2020 issue of Can. J. Chem. Eng. featured the first article in the Established Leaders Special Series, which considers the ways in which chemical engineers can help assess and design best practices for wastewater management and treatment, particularly in winery wastewater. Since then the Journal has published numerous other articles that examine the most fundamental aspects of the chemical engineering practice, and this Virtual Issue provides a glimpse into the review and feature papers published so far in this Special Series.

This Virtual Issue also marks the beginning of the Emerging Leaders Special Series, as the preface and first article published in this Special Series are featured in the October issue of Can. J. Chem. Eng. Guest editors Thomas A. Adams II, Zeinab Hosseinidoust, Gisele Azimi, and Ya-Huei (Cathy) Chin created this series as a means of highlighting exceptional early career researchers in the chemical engineering field and their contributions to Canadian research, and this Virtual Issue makes available the four articles published so far in this series.

We hope you enjoy this collection. Thank you for your support!
