The Beneficial Effect of Anthocyanidin-Rich Vitis vinifera L. Grape Skin Extract on Metabolic Changes Induced by High-Fat Diet in Mice Involves Antiinflammatory and Antioxidant Actions

Consumption of Vitis vinifera L. grape skin (GSE)-derived polyphenols protected against obesity, dyslipidemia, and insulin resistance in high-fat-fed mice. The beneficial effects of GSE may be related to a positive modulation of insulin signaling proteins, pAMPK/AMPK ratio, and GLUT4 expression in the skeletal muscle and adipose tissue. The prevention of obesity and related metabolic disorders by GSE may also be attributed to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory actions.
