Fast wie Matrjoschka-Puppen werden 1,4,7,10-Tetraazacyclododecan (Cyclen) und 1,4,8,11-Tetraazacyclotetradecan (Cyclam) sowie ihre Übergangsmetallkomplexe im Hohlraum von Cucurbit[8]uril (CB[8]) eingeschlossen. Die Röntgenstrukturanalyse von [Cu(cyclen)] im CB[8]-Komplex (siehe Bild; Kupfer: grün, Sauerstoff: rot, Stickstoff: blau, Kohlenstoff: grau) ergab, dass ein quadratisch-pyramidal fünffach koordiniertes CuII-Zentrum vorliegt, wobei ein Wassermolekül die axiale Position besetzt.
