Den richtigen Weg gefunden: Die Reaktion von Ethylen-Isotopomeren im Ultrahochvakuum mit Acetatspezies (siehe Schema), die auf einer Pd(111)-Oberfläche adsorbiert sind, verläuft über folgenden Weg zu Vinylacetat: Insertion von Ethylen in die Acetatspezies zu einem Acetoxyethyl-Intermediat und β-Hydrid-Eliminierung aus diesem Intermediat.
