Abstract

Coastal seas are influenced by dynamical, chemical, biological, and geological processes. The predominant dynamical processes, namely, tides, waves, and density currents are described in this article. Seasonal variations in the latter two components are often important in determining biological and chemical distributions. Computer simulation models are used to link all such processes and predict pathways and concentrations of contaminants.
