Overview

Aims and Scope

Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism is a peer-reviewed, open access, interdisciplinary journal providing rapid publication across the breadth of endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism research. The journal considers articles and reviews which focus on the clinical and scientific aspects of endocrinology, the clinical application of molecular endocrinology, diabetes care and clinical management. It also welcomes work on new or existing diabetes therapies, including dietary, exercise and lifestyle (non-pharmacological) interventions, in any aspect of metabolic and endocrine disease, either in humans or animal and cellular systems. "Metabolism" may relate to lipids, bone and drug metabolism, or broader aspects of endocrine dysfunction. Preclinical pharmacology, pharmacokinetic studies, meta-analyses and papers addressing drug safety and tolerability are also welcomed.

At Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism, we aim to be a truly global forum for research, and we think that the best research should be published and made widely accessible as quickly as possible. We advocate the principles of sound science publishing. We only accept papers where the conclusions are substantiated by the data presented, while deemphasizing the importance of novelty. If the science is reliable and sound, we will publish. Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism publishes original papers submitted directly to the journal and those referred from a select group of prestigious journals published by Wiley

In order for research to advance, negative results, which often make a valuable contribution to the field, should be published. However, articles containing negative or null results are frequently not considered for publication or rejected by journals. We welcome papers of this kind, where appropriate and valid power calculations are included that give confidence that a negative result can be relied upon.

Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism is a Wiley Open Access journal, one of a series of peer reviewed titles publishing quality research with speed and efficiency. For further information visit the Wiley Open Access website.

Peer Review

Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism maintains the highest standards of peer review while increasing the efficiency of the process. All research articles published in the journal undergo full peer review, and we pursue editorial approaches that may help us avoid bias. We do our utmost to judge research objectively on its own merits and to avoid favoring research, for example, from particular institutions, countries, or regions. Key characteristics of the journal’s review process are:

  • All research articles submitted directly to the journal are initially evaluated by the Editors-in-Chief; articles found appropriate for the journal will be reviewed by at least two suitably qualified experts.
  • Most submissions transferred to Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism from partnering journals will be assessed using the original peer-review reports from those journals; however, the Editors-in-Chief will critically review these peer-review reports and may choose to send manuscripts out for additional review.
  • All publication decisions are made by the Editors-in-Chief on the basis of the reviews provided.
  • Except where otherwise stated, manuscripts are single-blind peer reviewed.
  • Members of the editorial board lend insight, advice and guidance to the Editors-in-Chief generally and assist in decision making on specific submissions.
  • The managing editor and editorial assistant provide administrative support to ensure Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism maintains the integrity of peer review and delivers rapid and efficient publication to authors and reviewers.

Referred Papers

In addition to papers submitted directly to the journal, Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism also considers papers referred from other Wiley journals that are participating in the Manuscript Transfer Program. As part of our commitment to speed of publication, and in order to reduce strain on the peer-review system, we have set-up a mechanism to allow a select group of prestigious partner journals to refer scientifically sound manuscripts to Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism, along with any existing peer-review reports, when these journals are not themselves able to accommodate the manuscripts (for example, on grounds of scope or space). For such manuscripts that have existing peer-review reports, our Editors-in-Chief are able to decide especially rapidly whether or not a manuscript is suitable for publication.
