Ahmet Hoke, MD, PhD

Dr. Ahmet Hoke is Professor of Neurology and Neuroscience, Director of the Daniel B. Drachman Division of Neuromuscular Diseases, and Director of the Merkin Peripheral Neuropathy and Nerve Regeneration Center at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Dr. Hoke's clinical practice focuses on peripheral neuropathies and nerve injuries. His research interest includes studies on biology of peripheral axons and Schwann cells and disorders affecting the peripheral nervous system. He uses in vitro and in vivo models of peripheral neuropathies to study the mechanism of axonal degeneration and identify therapeutic targets for drug development. In addition, he has a research interest on mechanisms of axonal regeneration, specifically on chronic nerve injury models that recapitulate the challenges of human nerve regeneration.

He is the recipient of several awards including Derek Denny Brown Young Neurological Scholar Award (2005) and Wolfe Neuropathy Research prize (2018) given by the American Neurological Association, Myung Memorial Lecture Award (2017) by the Korean Neurological Association, Nejat Eczacibasi Medical Scientist Award (2019) by the Eczacibasi Foundation, Turkey, and Alan J. Gebhart Prize for Excellence in Peripheral Nerve Research (2022) by the Peripheral Nerve Society.
