ETRI Journal and the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute are committed to diversity, equity and inclusion. We seek to work with scholars from a range of institutional affiliations, nationalities, and career stages. The editorial team recognises and encourage submissions from scholars from groups who are under-represented in research. We are committed to increasing diversity and inclusion in research and publishing from applicants of all ethnicities, races, religions, sexes, sexual orientations, gender identities, national origins, disabilities, ages, or other individual status.
Author Guidelines
1. SUBMISSION
Authors should kindly note that submission implies that the content has not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere except as a brief abstract in the proceedings of a scientific meeting or symposium. If the work submitted to ETRI Journal has appeared or will appear in conference proceedings, this fact must be divulged at the time of submission. ETRI Journal wishes to dispel the current prevalent notion that an extension/difference of around twenty to thirty percent is acceptable.
Preprints : ETRI Journal will consider for review articles previously available as preprints. Preprints are defined as an author’s version of a research manuscript prior to formal peer review at a journal. Authors are requested to update any pre-publication versions with a link to the final published article.
Once the submission materials have been prepared in accordance with the Author Guidelines, manuscripts should be submitted online at https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/etrij. Click here for more details on how to use ScholarOne
For help with submissions, please contact the Editorial Office at [email protected]

3. PREPARING THE SUBMISSION
Cover Letters
Cover letters are not mandatory; however, they may be supplied at the author’s discretion.
Parts of the Manuscript
The manuscript should be submitted in separate files: main text file. ETRI Journal accepts double column FULL papers of between 8 and 10 pages only that follow the standard of ETRIJ LaTeX or MS Word format. Download ETRIJ Manuscript Template here.
Authorship
Please refer to the journal’s Authorship policy in the Editorial Policies and Ethical Considerations section for details on author listing eligibility.
Acknowledgements
Contributions from anyone who does not meet the criteria for authorship should be listed, with permission from the contributor, in an Acknowledgments section. Financial and material support should also be mentioned. Thanks to anonymous reviewers are not appropriate.
Conflict of Interest Statement
Authors will be asked to provide a conflict of interest statement during the submission process. For details on what to include in this section, see the ‘Conflict of Interest’ section in the Editorial Policies and Ethical Considerations section below. Submitting authors should ensure they liaise with all co-authors to confirm agreement with the final statement.
Main Text File
As papers are double-anonymous peer reviewed, the main text file should not include any information that might identify the authors.
The main text file should be presented in the following order:
i. Title, abstract, and key words;
ii. Main text;
iii. References;
iv.Appendices (if relevant).
Supporting information should be supplied as separate files.
The length of an article is limited to between 8 and 10 pages in the two-column format of ETRI Journal, excluding author biographies. The article should concisely present the background of the topic, the purpose of the investigation, the details of the investigation, the results, and the conclusions. The font size, character scale, and character spacing should not be manipulated to fit the page limit.
Abstract
Please provide an abstract of no more than 1200 characters (including spaces) containing the major keywords. The abstract should succinctly state the focus of the article, how the research is conducted, the principal results, and the significance of the results, in the present tense, not the past tense.
Keywords
Please provide a minimum of five keywords and select one keyword, which best describes your research area from the dropdown list in our manuscript submission system.
Main Text
• As papers are double-anonymous peer reviewed, the main text file should not include any information that might identify the authors.
• The journal uses US spelling; however, authors may submit using either option, as spelling of accepted papers is converted during the production process.
• Footnotes to the text are not allowed and any such material should be incorporated into the text as parenthetical matter.
Reference
Only material directly related to the author’s investigation should be cited and included in the list of references. All secondary sources used to complete the study must be cited in the References section. The secondary source must be clearly identified, and the author, editor, company, or organization, the title or product name, and the date of publication must be stated.
A numbered list of references must be provided at the end of the paper. The list should be arranged in the order of citation in the text, not in alphabetical order. Only one secondary source should be listed per reference number. Each reference number must be enclosed in brackets. Examples of citations are:
Journal: G. Burosch et al., On subalgebras of an algebra of predicates, Elektron. Informationsverarb. Kyvernet. 21 (1985), no. 1-2, 9-22. MR 87c:03044
Conference Proceeding: B. Zilber, The structure of models of uncountably categorical theories, Proc. Internat. Congr. Math. (Warsaw 1983), vol. 1, North-Holland, Amsterdam, 1984, ppp. 359-368. MR 87d:03093b

Tables
Tables should be self-contained and complement, not duplicate, information contained in the text. They should be supplied as editable files, not pasted as images. Legends should be concise but comprehensive – the table, legend, and footnotes must be understandable without reference to the text. All abbreviations must be defined in footnotes. Footnote symbols: †, ‡, §, ¶, should be used (in that order) and *, **, *** should be reserved for P-values. Statistical measures such as SD or SEM should be identified in the headings.
Figure Legends
Legends should be concise but comprehensive – the figure and its legend must be understandable without reference to the text. Include definitions of any symbols used and define/explain all abbreviations and units of measurement.
Figures
Although authors are encouraged to send the highest-quality figures possible, for peer-review purposes, a wide variety of formats, sizes, and resolutions are accepted. The Editorial Office requires editable figure files pre-acceptance. Click here for the basic figure requirements for figures submitted with manuscripts for initial peer review, as well as the more detailed post-acceptance figure requirements. When referencing your figures in your article, use the abbreviation “Fig” except that use “Figure” at the beginning of a sentence. However, do not abbreviate “Table.”
For any figure, image, other material that are not original to authors, written permission must be obtained from the copyrights holder and the use of such item must be properly acknowledged. The image release form should be completed and submitted together with manuscript files as necessary.
Mathematical Notation (For MS Word)
ETRI Journal advocates two means by which to insert equations into your MS Word document — MS Word’s inbuilt equation editor or MathType.
MathType is the preferred method over MS Word’s inbuilt equation editor. It is easier to alter the individual elements that make up an equation within MathType than it is within MS Word’s inbuilt equation editor. This is essential to those members of the editorial team who will be working on your paper.
Numbering
Equations should be numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals enclosed in parentheses, as follows:
R = (a × b)/c (1)
BALTOTAL = 2M + 9y – 3x (2)
The equation number in parentheses should be flush with the right margin. The symbols used in an equation must be defined before or immediately after the equation appears. In the text, only the number should be used, for example, “(1),” not “Eq. (1)” or “equation (1),” except when opening a sentence with the number, in which case it should appear as “Equation (1).”
Symbols
To avoid errors in editing and typesetting, authors should clearly identify subscripts, Greek letters, and other symbols. It is especially important to distinguish clearly between the following terms:
Capital and lowercase letters when used as symbols.
Zero and the letter “O.”
The lowercase letter “1,” the numeral one, and the prime sign.
The letter “k” and κ (kappa), “u” and μ (mu), “v” and ν (nu), “n” and η (eta).
The multiplication sign is “×,” not “x,” and the subtraction sign is “–,” not “-.”
All variables must be italicized in the paper. It is the author’s responsibility to ensure that symbols are properly presented in the text, in equations, in figures, and in tables. The formatting must be consistent throughout.
Additional Files
Appendices
Appendices will be published after the references. For submission they should be supplied as separate files but referred to in the text.
Supporting Information
Supporting information is information that is not essential to the article, but provides greater depth and background. It is hosted online and appears without editing or typesetting. It may include tables, figures, videos, datasets, etc. Click here for Wiley’s FAQs on supporting information.
Note: if data, scripts, or other artefacts used to generate the analyses presented in the paper are available via a publicly available data repository, authors should include a reference to the location of the material within their paper.
General Style Points
The following points provide general advice on formatting and style.
• Abbreviations: In general, terms should not be abbreviated unless they are used repeatedly and the abbreviation is helpful to the reader. Initially, use the word in full, followed by the abbreviation in parentheses. Thereafter use the abbreviation only.
• Units of measurement: Measurements should be given in SI or SI-derived units. Visit the Bureau International des Poids et Mesures (BIPM) website at https://www.bipm.org/en/about-us/ for more information about SI units.
• Numbers: numbers under 10 are spelt out, except for: measurements with a unit (8mmol/l); age (6 weeks old), or lists with other numbers (11 dogs, 9 cats, 4 gerbils).
• Figures: In the text, the figures should be used, for example, “Fig. 1”, except when opening a sentence with the number, in which case it should appear as “Figure 1”.
• Trade Names: Chemical substances should be referred to by the generic name only. Trade names should not be used. Drugs should be referred to by their generic names. If proprietary drugs have been used in the study, refer to these by their generic name, mentioning the proprietary name and the name and location of the manufacturer in parentheses.

4. EDITORIAL POLICIES AND ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS
Editorial Review and Acceptance
The acceptance criteria for all papers are the quality and originality of the research and its significance to journal readership. Except where otherwise stated, manuscripts are double-anonymous peer reviewed.
When a manuscript is submitted to ETRI Journal, it undergoes an initial prescreening by the Editorial Committee to determine whether or not the paper fits the interests of ETRI Journal readers. If the Editor feels the manuscript meets the journal’s minimum standards for publication, the paper then enters a double anonymized peer review process. The Editor generally selects three reviewers for each paper. However, one or two reviews may be sufficient for the Editorial Committee to make a decision.
Wiley's policy on the confidentiality of the review process is available here.
Conflict of Interest
The journal requires that all authors disclose any potential sources of conflict of interest. Any interest or relationship, financial or otherwise that might be perceived as influencing an author's objectivity is considered a potential source of conflict of interest. These must be disclosed when directly relevant or directly related to the work that the authors describe in their manuscript. Potential sources of conflict of interest include, but are not limited to: patent or stock ownership, membership of a company board of directors, membership of an advisory board or committee for a company, and consultancy for or receipt of speaker's fees from a company. The existence of a conflict of interest does not preclude publication. If the authors have no conflict of interest to declare, they must also state this at submission. It is the responsibility of the corresponding author to review this policy with all authors and collectively to disclose with the submission ALL pertinent commercial and other relationships.
Human Studies and Subjects
The journal requires that you include in the manuscript details IRB approvals, ethical treatment of human and animal research participants, and gathering of informed consent, as appropriate. Authors should be able to submit, upon request, a statement from the IRB or ethics committee indicating approval of the research. Images and information from individual participants will only be published where the authors have obtained the individual's free prior informed consent. Please review Wiley’s policies surrounding human studies, animal studies, clinical trial registration, biosecurity, and research reporting guidelines. This journal follows the core practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and handles cases of research and publication misconduct accordingly (https://publicationethics.org/core-practices).
Funding
Authors should list all funding sources in the Acknowledgments section. Authors are responsible for the accuracy of their funder designation. If in doubt, please check the Open Funder Registry for the correct nomenclature: https://www.crossref.org/services/funder-registry/
Authorship
Please use the Author Checklist to ensure that your manuscript is in accordance with ETRI Journal Author Guideline. The list of authors should accurately illustrate who contributed to the work and how. All those listed as authors should qualify for authorship according to the following criteria:
1. Have made substantial contributions to conception and design, or acquisition of data, or analysis and interpretation of data;
2. Been involved in drafting the manuscript or revising it critically for important intellectual content;
3. Given final approval of the version to be published. Each author should have participated sufficiently in the work to take public responsibility for appropriate portions of the content; and
4. Agreed to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.
Contributions from anyone who does not meet the criteria for authorship should be listed, with permission from the contributor, in an Acknowledgments section (for example, to recognize contributions from people who provided technical help, collation of data, writing assistance, acquisition of funding, or a department chairperson who provided general support). Prior to submitting the article all authors should agree on the order in which their names will be listed in the manuscript.
Additional Authorship Options: Joint first or senior authorship: In the case of joint first authorship, a footnote should be added to the author listing, e.g. ‘X and Y should be considered joint first author’ or ‘X and Y should be considered joint senior author.’
ORCID
As part of the journal’s commitment to supporting authors at every step of the publishing process, the journal requires the submitting author (only) to provide an ORCID iD when submitting a manuscript. Click here to find out more. This takes around 2 minutes to complete. Find more information here.
Publication Ethics
This journal is a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Note this journal uses iThenticate’s CrossCheck software to detect instances of overlapping and similar text in submitted manuscripts. Read Wiley’s Top 10 Publishing Ethics Tips for Authors here. Wiley’s Publication Ethics Guidelines can be found here.
Artificial Intelligence Generated Content
Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools, such as ChatGPT and others based on large language models (LLMs), cannot initiate an original piece of research without the direction of human authors. In addition, such tools can neither be held accountable for a published work/research design, which is a general requirement of authorship, nor have a legal standing or the ability to hold or assign copyright. Therefore, AI tools should not be listed as authors/coauthors or be cited as authors, as recommended in the ‘COPE’s position statement on AI tools’.
If authors use GenAI tools in writing, these tools should only be used to enhance the readability and linguistic quality of the work but not to replace essential authoring tasks.
If an author has used this kind of tool to write any portion of a manuscript, its use must be disclosed, transparently and in detail, in an Acknowledgements section.
We recommend authors to adhere to the following format when preparing the corresponding statement:
During the preparation of this work, the author(s) used [NAME OF TOOL or SERVICE] for [REASON]. After using this tool (or service), the author(s) reviewed and edited the content as needed and take(s) full responsibility for the content of the article.
The author is fully responsible for the accuracy of any information provided by the AI tool and for correctly referencing any supporting work on which that information depends.
Data Sharing and Data Accessibility
ETRI Journal encourages authors to share the data supporting the results in the paper by archiving it in an appropriate public repository. Authors may include a data accessibility statement, including a link to the repository they have used, in order that this statement can be published alongside their paper.
See the Standard Templates for Author Use to select an appropriate data availability statement for your dataset.
5. AUTHOR LICENSING
If a paper is accepted for publication, authors will be required to complete a copyright license agreement.
General information regarding licensing and copyright is available here.
Self-Archiving Definitions and Policies: As ETRI Journal adopts double anonymized review, authors are required to maintain anonymity of their submission during the peer review period and posting of submissions on a public website is strongly discouraged. When accepted, the journal’s standard copyright agreement allows for self-archiving of the article.
6. PUBLICATION PROCESS AFTER ACCEPTANCE
Accepted Article Received in Production
When an accepted article is received by Wiley’s production team, the corresponding author will receive an email asking them to login or register with Wiley Author Services. The author will be asked to sign a publication license at this point.
Accepted Articles
If a paper is accepted for publication, each author would need to submit a photo and biography. To avoid publication delays, the editorial office should be immediately notified of any anticipated changes in author addresses or absences that may occur during the publication process.
Proofs
Once the paper is typeset, the author will receive an email notification with the URL to download a PDF typeset page proof, as well as associated forms and full instructions on how to correct and return the file.
Please note that the author is responsible for all statements made in their work, including changes made during the editorial process – authors should check proofs carefully. Note that proofs should be returned within 48 hours from receipt of first proof.
Publication Charges
ETRI Journal does not charge authors for submission or publication.
Publishing Schedule
ETRI Journal is published six times a year: February 28, April 30, June 30, August 30, October 30, and December 30.
Early View
The journal offers rapid publication via Wiley’s Early View service. Early View (Online Version of Record) articles are published on Wiley Online Library before inclusion in an issue. Note there may be a delay after corrections are received before the article appears online, as Editors also need to review proofs. Once the article is published on Early View, no further changes to the article are possible. The Early View article is fully citable and carries an online publication date and DOI for citations.
7. POST PUBLICATION
Access and Sharing
- The author receives an email alert (if requested).
- The link to the publisehd article can be shared through social media.

Authorship Changes
In accordance with Wiley’s Best Practice Guidelines on Research Integrity and Publishing Ethics and the Committee on Publication Ethics’ guidance, this journal will allow authors to correct authorship on a submitted, accepted, or published article if a valid reason exists to do so. All authors – including those to be added or removed – must agree to any proposed change. To request a change to the author list, please complete the Request for Changes to a Journal Article Author List Form and contact either the journal’s editorial or production office, depending on the status of the article. Authorship changes will not be considered without a fully completed Author Change form. [Correcting the authorship is different from changing an author’s name; the relevant policy for that can be found below, as well as in Wiley’s Best Practice Guidelines under “Author name changes after publication.”]
Author Name Change Policy
In cases where authors wish to change their name following publication, Wiley will update and republish the paper and redeliver the updated metadata to indexing services. Our editorial and production teams will use discretion in recognising that name changes may be of a sensitive and private nature for various reasons including (but not limited to) alignment with gender identity, or as a result of marriage, divorce, or religious conversion. Accordingly, to protect the author’s privacy, we will not publish a correction notice to the paper, and we will not notify co-authors of the change. Authors should contact the journal’s Editorial Office with their name change request.
