The National Council on Family Relations (NCFR), founded in 1938, is a multidisciplinary scholarly organization focused on catalyzing knowledge about families into action through research, education, practice, policy work, and advocacy. NCFR’s work is driven by members in dozens of countries and all 50 U.S. states.

What NCFR Does:
- Publishes three international scholarly journals that feature top research from around the world about families: Journal of Marriage and Family, Family Relations: Interdisciplinary Journal of Applied Family Science, and Journal of Family Theory & Review
- Organizes an annual conference of peer-reviewed, cutting-edge research, methods and practices, pedagogy, and more related to understanding and strengthening families.
- Champions family science by representing family science scholars and professionals, establishing standards, and advocating for the advancement of the scientific discipline and its professions.
- Promotes family life education through the Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE) credential, which validates the experience and knowledge of family life education professionals.
- Educates about public policy. NCFR researchers and educators interpret and disseminate information about families to inform legislators and other decisionmakers about the possible effects of policy on families.
