John M. Opitz Young Investigator Award 2025

John M. Opitz Young Investigator Award

Wiley is seeking nominations for its annual John M. Opitz Young Investigator Award, established in honor of Dr. Opitz and his long-standing commitment to educating young scientists and his dedication as Founding Editor-in-Chief to the American Journal of Medical Genetics (AJMG).

An internationally respected physician and researcher, Dr. Opitz is one of the first physicians to recognize and correlate specific groupings of pediatric anomalies with heredity.

The recipient of the award is selected on the basis of a significant research paper published in AJMG Part A. The paper must have been published in the previous calendar year and must cover one of the following areas of research: congenital anomalies, mechanisms of morphogenesis and malformations, developmental biology, or genes involved in development. Candidates should be under the age of 40, or within 10 years of completing their postdoctoral training.

The Award Selection Committee selects the winning paper from those that were published in an issue of the American Journal of Medical Genetics Part A during 2024. The author is presented with a plaque and an honorarium. Members of the scientific community are encouraged to nominate individuals for consideration by the Committee. Authors who meet the above-mentioned criteria are also invited to apply for the award.

Applications and nominations are due June 30, 2025 and should be sent in the form of an email letter that includes the full citation of the article. The email letter from the mentor or nominator should include a brief account of the author’s background and the particular significance of the article. A copy of the author’s curriculum vitae should be included as part of the nomination. Authors can be considered for only one paper during any calendar year.
