Overview

Aims and Scope

Founded in 1964, Psychophysiology is the world’s leading journal dedicated to psychophysiological science. The journal plays a crucial role in advancing human neuroscience across various methodologies, including both brain, autonomic, and endocrine measures. Psychophysiology covers a wide range of research on the interaction between physiological and psychological factors.

Studies published in Psychophysiology typically involve psychological independent variables and noninvasive physiological dependent variables, such as hemodynamic, optical, and electromagnetic brain imaging. The journal also features autonomic and endocrine measures, for example, heart rate, electromyography, pupillometry, and more. While most studies focus on human participants, the journal occasionally publishes research using animal models if appropriate for advancing the topics listed above.

Psychophysiology also welcomes submissions exploring new theoretical, empirical, and methodological advances in areas that are adjacent to psychophysiological research, such as:

  • Cognitive and affective neuroscience
  • Behavioral medicine
  • Clinical and social neuroscience

The journal publishes a variety of content, including theoretical papers, evaluative literature reviews, empirical studies, and methodological papers. We encourage submissions from scientists in these diverse fields. For further details on the journal’s aims and scope, refer to Fabiani (2015) and Keil (2024).

Advantages of Publishing in Psychophysiology

  • Reaching a Targeted Audience of Researchers Devoted to Psychophysiology. The Journal's readership includes experts in human psychophysiology, cognitive, affective, clinical and social neuroscience, psychology, psychopathology, behavioral medicine, neurology, and psychiatry.
  • Publishing your Paper and Reproducing Color Figures at No Cost. There are no page or other submission or publication charges, and no costs associated with the inclusion of color figures.
  • Securing Rapid Online Publication through EarlyView®. Your article will be posted online as soon as it is ready, before the release of the compiled monthly issue.
