Overview
Aims and Scope
The Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion (JSSR) is a multi-disciplinary journal that publishes articles, research notes, and book reviews on the social scientific study of religion. Published articles are representative of the best current theoretical and methodological treatments of religion. Manuscripts are subjected to a double-blind review process.
JSSR does not publish review articles or articles geared toward clinical or other practitioner audiences. Substantive areas include both micro-level analysis of individuals' experience with religion and macro-level analysis of religious organizations, institutions, and social change. While many articles published in the journal are sociological, the journal also publishes the work of scholars in anthropology, economics, health sciences, religious studies, psychology, and political science. The journal does not publish theological treatments of religion.
JSSR Diversity and Inclusion Statement
Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion (JSSR) is an international association committed to generating a diverse body of rigorous empirical and theoretical social science scholarship related to religion that takes advantage of a breadth of analytical approaches, methodologies, paradigms, and theoretical frames. To this end, we encourage JSSR authors to review and cite scholarship from a diversity of disciplinary and methodological sources as well as work from scholars from diverse social backgrounds, particularly the work of those from underrepresented and marginalized groups, societies, and countries. Moreover, we welcome and actively pursue scholars from a wide variety of social groups to participate in the review, editorial, and authorship stages of the JSSR publication process. These social groups include but are not limited to race, ethnicity, creed, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, language, culture, nation, religion/spirituality, citizenship status, age, disability, military/veteran status, and political and policy perspectives.
