About the International Society of Blood Transfusion
The International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) serves as a global knowledge network for professionals in transfusion medicine. Established in 1935, ISBT has evolved into an international organization, connecting experts from over 100 countries to collaborate and advance the safety and effectiveness of blood transfusions worldwide.
ISBT supports 15 working parties, where members contribute to advancing science, research, and best practices within specialized areas of the transfusion chain. The Society hosts both international and regional congresses, alongside virtual events, webinars, live journal clubs, and workshops, offering numerous educational opportunities.
Advocating for the welfare of both blood donors and patients, ISBT promotes its "Code of Ethics" and maintains a partnership as a Non-State Actor with the World Health Organization (WHO).
Vision: A world with safe and sufficient blood for all.
Mission: ISBT is a global community of transfusion medicine professionals dedicated to advancing knowledge and practice. We achieve this through education, knowledge sharing, and advocacy for the well-being of blood donors and patients.
