About this Journal

Aims and scope

Journal of Advanced Transportation (JAT) is a fully peer-reviewed international journal in transportation science and technology that seeks to advance the efficiency, robustness, and safety of transportation systems.

It publishes original research articles that document theoretical and innovative methods in the analysis, design, operations and planning of multi-modal transport networks. Subject areas include but are by no means limited to:

  • Transit systems
  • Travel behavior modeling
  • Urban rail and bus systems
  • Active mode (cyclist and pedestrian) modeling studies
  • Shared mobility planning and operations
  • Traffic flow theory and control
  • Sensor technology for road vehicles
  • Traffic safety
  • Airline operations
  • Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), including automated and/or connected vehicles
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) methods used in the planning, design, and operations of transport systems

JAT also publishes focused review articles that examine the state of the art, identify emerging trends, and suggest future directions of developing fields. Papers based on a case study will only be considered if they report on new transport systems for which there is little knowledge available. The research should be as novel as possible in terms of both the methodology and transport system that it addresses.

Highway engineering, pavement engineering, railway engineering, freight transport, supply chain management, geography studies, and vehicle design and mechanics do not fall within the aims and scope of JAT. If your research covers one or more of these subject areas, please consider submitting your manuscript to an alternative Wiley journal.
