Diamond Jubilee Celebrations for Annual Plant Reviews
Annual Plant Reviews published its first monograph in 1998 which means that in 2023 we celebrate 25 years since it came on the scene. It seems only yesterday that the idea was hatched whilst I was out running and the first volume on ‘Arabidopsis’ was edited by Mary Anderson, who then headed up the Arabidosis Stock Centre at Nottingham, and myself. At that time the publisher was Sheffield Academic Press, who were looking for an opportunity to engage with the scientific community, and subsequently the series moved to Blackwell and then to Wiley who are the current publishers. From the time of its launch over 50 monographs on a wide range of topical subjects in the Plant Sciences have been edited and after its evolution to an online publication (APRo) in 2018 a further five volumes each of four issues have been published. As a consequence, over the last 25 years, we have published over 750 review articles and as most articles are multi authored we have engaged with approximately 2000 plant scientists from across the world. These are statistics of which APRo can be rightly proud!
The aim of the Associate Editors of APRo and myself is to now lay the foundations for the next 25 years. We are looking to work even more closely with the international Plant Science community by introducing a new article format that would bring breaking news stories to the rapid attention of our readers.
