Description

The kidneys are complex organs and vital in sustaining organism functions, especially by keeping the body’s fluids in balance. Kidney disease can affect all bodily functions, ranging from changes in hydroelectrolytic balance to a failure in blood pressure regulation. Among the therapeutic options available for treating hypertension-related kidney disorders, the use of medicinal plants and their isolated compounds stands out. Medicinal plants have been utilised since ancient times and remain an important therapeutic resource used by people around the world.

However, many of the medicinal plants used today have not experienced careful scientific investigation, whether they are studies of efficacy, toxicity, or drug-to-drug interactions. In addition, there are continued efforts to discover new therapeutic options for the treatment of hypertension-related kidney disorders, such as for acute and chronic kidney disease, renal failure, prevention and dissolution of renal calculi, and other hypertension-related kidney disorders.

In this Special Issue, we would like to invite investigators to submit preclinical or clinical studies focusing on the potential of medicinal plants for the prevention and treatment of hypertension-related kidney disorders. We will consider both original research and review articles.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Medicinal plants or isolated compounds for the treatment of acute and chronic kidney disease
  • Medicinal plants or isolated compounds and kidney/urinary stones
  • Plant-derived medicines and the relaxation of renal arteries
  • The potential of medicinal plants or isolated compounds as renoprotective agents
  • Preclinical and clinical studies on plant-derived medicines and their use as diuretic agents
  • Review articles evaluating the efficacy and safety of medicinal plants or isolated compounds for the prevention and treatment of hypertension-related kidney disorders
