Deprescribing is the planned and supervised process of reducing or stopping medications when they are unnecessary, the harms outweigh the benefits or they do not align with healthcare goals and treatment preferences. The field has seen rapid growth across the globe over the last 10 years, which reflects a need to address the growing problem of medication overuse across the world. The second International Conference on Deprescribing (ICOD2) was held in September 2024, two years after the first deprescribing conference ICOD1. ICOD2 was a huge success that brought together more than 180 deprescribing researchers, clinicians, teachers and other stakeholders from 20 countries.

To drive innovation in deprescribing as a rapidly developing field, Basic & Clinical Pharmacology & Toxicology (BCPT) hosted a special issue to gather deprescribing research and commentary from ICOD1.

BCPT is again hosting a Special Issue to provide a platform for deprescribing research and commentary from ICOD2 as well as in general. All formats available in BCPT will be considered for this issue. Submissions should fall within the scope of the journal.

Submission deadline: 1st August 2025
