JFS Virtual Issue to Commemorate National Forensic Science Week

The Journal of Forensic Sciences (JFS) has been at the forefront of publishing papers that advance our scientific understanding of terrorists, and methods for the investigation of terrorist incidents. Over the past five years, the JFS has published papers on diverse topics in multiple areas, including identifying risk factors for extremist radicalization; psychological profiles of lone actor terrorists; typologies of terrorist offenders; case studies; critical post-event methods for the forensic analysis of improvised explosive devices and substances; and methods for retrieving critical forensic chemistry evidence at terrorist crime scenes.

Advancing our knowledge of terrorist offender profiles and methods holds the key to rapid forensic crime scene investigation after terrorist events. These advancements include methods for offender classification and identification that hold promise for the prevention of future terrorist assaults. This compilation of excellent papers serves as a solid foundation of research in this area.
