Selection Process:

For this year’s award, the criteria used to identify the winner and two runners-up were as follows:

Eligible Papers:

  • A list of all papers published in JVPT in calendar year 2024 were collated, including the date they were first published online on the journal’s Early View service.
  • Original Articles, Short Communications and Pharmacokinetic Reports were included (Review Articles, Letters to the Editor and Editorial-type content were excluded from consideration).

Usage:

  • The number of full-text accesses of each paper in the first 12 months following publication were collated.
  • The data was normalized to account for time since online publication.

Ranking:

  • Articles were sorted by the normalized number of full-text accesses in the first 12 months following publication from highest to lowest to determine the winner and two runners-up.

Proposed Selection for Future Years: For future years, the JVPT editorial team will be revisiting the selection criteria to include the paper's potential long term impact on the field, and overall quality of the research presented, along with metrics such as citations and usage. We will update this page once the new selection criteria have been finalized.
